La mission globale du groupe de formation à la recherche 2530 (RTG2530) est de combler les lacunes existantes dans les connaissances sur les effets médiés par le biote sur le cycle du C estuarien dans les conditions actuelles et par rapport aux scénarios de changement global. Le RTG2530 a été créé par un groupe interdisciplinaire de 15 chercheurs principaux de l'Université de Hambourg avec des formations scientifiques allant de l'écologie terrestre et marine, en passant par les géosciences, la microbiologie et la biologie moléculaire végétale et animale.

Le groupe de formation à la recherche (RTG 2530) "Effets médiés par le biote sur le cycle du carbone dans les estuaires" démarre sa deuxième phase en octobre 2023. Nous sollicitons des candidatures pour 14 postes de doctorat (f, m, d) avec un intérêt pour la recherche interdisciplinaire sur le rôle du biote sur le cycle du carbone estuarien. Les 14 projets de doctorat s'appuient sur les résultats de la première cohorte de doctorants et comprennent des études expérimentales dans trois stations de recherche établies le long de l'estuaire de l'Elbe, des études de mésocosme et/ou des expériences en laboratoire. Celles-ci seront combinées avec des approches de modélisation pour intégrer les « effets médiés par le biote sur le cycle du C ».

The overall mission of the Research Training Group 2530 (RTG2530) is to fill existing knowledge gaps on biota-mediated effects on estuarine C cycling under current conditions and with respect to global change scenarios. The RTG2530 has been established by an interdisciplinary group of 15 Principal Researchers at Universität Hamburg with scientific backgrounds ranging from terrestrial and marine ecology, via geoscience to microbiology and molecular plant and animal biology.

The Research Training Group (RTG 2530) “Biota-Mediated Effects on Carbon Cycling in Estuaries” starts its second phase in October 2023. We are inviting applications for 14 PhD positions (f, m, d) with an interest in interdisciplinary research on the role of biota on estuarine carbon cycling. The 14 doctoral projects built on the results of the first cohort of doctoral researchers and comprise experimental studies at three established research stations along the Elbe estuary, mesocosm studies and/or laboratory experiments. These will be combined with modelling approaches for integrating “biota-mediated effects on C cycling”.

In 2014 the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) initiated the programme "Postdoctoral Researchers International Mobility Experience" (PRIME) to support the international mobility of postdoctoral researchers by temporary positions at German universities in place of conventional scholarships. The programme has been funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF). The European Union co-funded the programme until 2019 (EU/FP7/Marie Curie Actions/COFUND). Support is provided for 18 months, of which 12 months have to be spent abroad and 6 months (re-integration phase) at a German university. The re-integration phase is mandatory. The German university administrates the salary during the whole funding period.

Choosing the host institutions

Applicants must establish contact with the foreign host and the German universities on their own. We recommend GERiT – German Research Institutions (a service provided by the German Research Foundation-DFG, the German Rectors’ Conference-HRK and DAAD) to get an overview of recent research topics and international cooperations of German Universities.

According the procedures established for each PhD Programmes, oral admission exams may be taken in some cases in a language other than Italian. We are seeking for highly motivated postdoctoral fellows to join in Dr. Thanh Hoang?s lab in the University of Michigan. Our research encompasses a wide range of neuroscience research and functional genomics, ineurodevelopment and neurodegeneration and glial biology. Using a combination of large-scale multiomics and genetic tools in both mouse and human systems, our lab particularly focuses on exploring the regenerative capacity and neuroprotective roles of glial cells in injuries and neurodegenerative disorders. Recruitment of Outstanding Talents in the Field of Wheat Research at Home and Abroad by the Institute for Dezhou (Qihe) Wheat Industry Research of Shandong Agricultural University

Shandong Agricultural University (SDAU), located at the foot of the magnificent Mount Tai, is a multi-disciplinary university with agricultural science as its strength and life science as a distinctive feature, covering many areas of both natural sciences and social sciences. We are looking for

Postdoctoral Researcher in Physical Chemistry at Faculty of Health and Society, focused on   Interactions of Proteins and Carbohydrates in Solid-State Formulations.

The project and work duties

This project is a part of the NextBioForm consortium https://www.ri.se/en/nextbioform  that involves several universities and companies. The consortium aims at building a well-renowned, globally competitive sustainable national centre for development of biologics. In this project, we will investigate the structural and thermodynamic changes in proteins and carbohydrate excipients upon hydration and dehydration. In particular, distribution of water between components of amorphous formulations will be studied. Also, specific and non-specific ion effects in solid formulations will be investigated. Apart from carrying out research within these areas the applicant is expected to take responsibility for the maintenance of the instruments involved and to be active by supervising graduate and postgraduate students and fellow scientists in the techniques and participate in teaching at graduate and postgraduate levels. In addition, the applicant will be expected to take part in applications for external funding to support research activities.

Considering that the project requires collaboration between academic, industrial, and clinical partners, it is expected that the applicant actively communicates and collaborate within this context. Documented project management and leadership abilities are therefore valued.  The applicants are further expected to take responsibility for the maintenance of the instruments involved and to be active by supervising graduate and postgraduate students and fellow scientists in the techniques and participate in teaching at graduate and postgraduate levels. Qualifications

A postdoctoral researcher is primarily employed to conduct research. They have completed a doctoral degree or a foreign degree considered on par with a doctoral degree. The ideal candidate holds a master’s degree in e.g., chemistry, biochemistry, biophysics, physics or chemical engineering.

In addition to formal competence, University employees must possess the personal capacities necessary to perform the duties of the position well and to represent the University in the best possible way.

Specific requirements for this position:

Hands-on experience in one or several of the following techniques:

• Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC)
• Small-Angle X-ray Scattering (SAXS)
• Water sorption techniques
• Isothermal calorimetric techniques
• Other relevant techniques for studies of biopolymers

Nous proposons plusieurs postes de chercheur postdoctoral au sein de notre projet interdisciplinaire « Biobarriers - Health, Disorders and Healing » comprenant un réseau de partenaires académiques, industriels et cliniques. La vision générale du projet de recherche est d'améliorer la santé et la reconstitution des barrières biologiques en modernisant les traitements cliniques et les produits basés sur les connaissances moléculaires. Le projet vise en outre à étendre la collaboration existante avec les universités régionales (y compris MAX IV et ESS) et l'industrie pour former une plaque tournante solide en Scandinavie pour l'administration de médicaments topiques, l'analyse non invasive et les technologies bénéficiant d'une vision holistique de la biobarrière (peau, muqueuse) la recherche et l'enseignement.

En particulier, l'objectif de ce projet est d'étudier comment les aspects moléculaires et biophysiques de la peau et des muqueuses sont influencés par l'environnement et les contacts avec, par exemple, des formulations topiques. Sur la base de ces connaissances, les candidats doivent être capables de relier les résultats obtenus aux traitements cliniques et aux produits industriels visant à améliorer la santé de la peau et des muqueuses et/ou à prévenir les défauts et les troubles de ces biobarrières. Les activités sont divisées en plusieurs sous-projets, chacun avec ses propres objectifs spécifiques. Les sous-projets sont liés entre eux par des activités visant à réaliser une preuve de concept clinique et à intégrer la recherche du projet dans l'éducation :

Barrières brisées : comprendre comment les caractéristiques moléculaires et structurelles de la peau et l'effet des formulations topiques régulent l'activité des enzymes redox/antioxydantes dans les tissus et traduire ces connaissances en mesures, traitements et produits pour maintenir la santé de la peau, empêchant ainsi la détérioration et la rupture. La recherche principale est effectuée en exploitant des méthodes physico-chimiques et des modèles de biobarrières et de formulations.
3. Modèles ex vivo de peau et de muqueuse : développer des modèles avancés ex vivo dérivés de cellules et de tissus permettant des études multidisciplinaires et holistiques de peau et de muqueuse saines et désordonnées.
4. Microbiote : Développer des méthodes permettant d'étudier les antimicrobiens et les mécanismes moléculaires du rôle du microbiote dans l'homéostasie redox et la modulation immunitaire dans les barrières biologiques, notamment cutanées.
5. Détection : développer des méthodes de détection permettant (i) la détection sans fil de la prolifération microbienne au niveau des barrières biologiques et des plaies, et (ii) la relation entre l'état de santé général (systémique) et l'état de santé de la barrière.

About the positions

We are offering several positions as postdoctoral researcher within our interdisciplinary project “Biobarriers - Health, Disorders and Healing” comprising a network of academic, industrial, and clinical partners. The general vision of the research project is to improve the health and reconstitution of biological barriers by modernizing clinical treatments and products based on molecular-level knowledge. The project further aims to expand existing collaboration with regional universities (including MAX IV and ESS) and industry to form a strong hub in Scandinavia for topical drug delivery, non-invasive analytics and technologies benefiting from a holistic view of biobarrier (skin, mucosa) research and education.

In particular, the aim of this project is to investigate how molecular and biophysical aspects of skin and mucosa are influenced by the ambient and contacts with e.g., topical formulations. Based on this knowledge, the candidates should be able to relate obtained findings to clinical treatments and industrial products aiming at improving skin and mucosa health and/or preventing defects and disorders of such biobarriers. The activities are divided into several sub-projects, each with its own specific objectives. The sub-projects are linked together by activities aimed at achieving clinical proof of concept and integrating the project's research into education:

1. Sustainable topical formulations: To initiate the development of sustainable and multifunctional topical formulations, which together with efficient and targeted drug delivery include sustainability features such as biodegradability, and prebiotic and probiotic characteristics.
2. Broken barriers: To understand how molecular and structural characteristics of skin and the effect of topical formulations regulate the activity of redox/antioxidant enzymes in the tissue and translate this knowledge into measures, treatments and products for maintaining skin health, thus preventing deterioration and breaking. Main research is done exploiting physico-chemical methods and models of biobarriers and formulations.
3. Ex vivo models of skin and mucosa: To develop advanced ex vivo cell and tissue-derived models enabling multidisciplinary and holistic studies of healthy and disordered skin and mucosa.
4. Microbiota: To develop methods enabling studies of antimicrobials and molecular mechanisms of microbiota’s role in redox homeostasis and immune modulation in biological barriers, especially skin.
5. Sensing: To develop sensing methods enabling (i) wireless detection of microbial overgrowth at biological barriers and wounds, and (ii) relation of general (systemic) health condition to the barrier health status.

We are looking for applicants with scientific proficiency in at least one, and preferably two to three of the five sub-projects listed. It is foreseen that all applicants describe how and where their interests and specific expertise contribute to further the development of this project. Considering that the project requires collaboration between academic, industrial, and clinical partners, it is expected that the applicant actively communicates and collaborates within this context. Documented project management and leadership abilities are therefore valued.  The applicants are further expected to take responsibility for the maintenance of the instruments involved and to be active by supervising graduate and postgraduate students and fellow scientists in the techniques and participating in teaching at graduate and postgraduate levels. In addition, the applicants will be expected to take part in applications for external funding to support research activities.

Required Qualifications and Criteria for Assessment of Applicants

Candidates must have demonstrated scientific competence corresponding to a doctoral degree. The ideal candidate holds a master’s degree in e.g., chemistry, biochemistry, biophysics, or chemical engineering. Hands-on experience in techniques which could be anticipated to contribute significantly to advancing specific parts of the project is highly valued. The candidate should clearly describe where and how she/he fits into this project and how the candidate's specific competence and skills may strengthen the team. The candidate should also have the ability to work in a team and collaborate with people in complementary disciplines, both from academia and industry. The department is seeking a candidate with outstanding research achievements in the field of experimental condensed-matter physics. The individual should complement the departmental research focus, "Physics of Nanostructures", with activities in the areas of quantum transport, quantum circuits, or quantum materials. The CWI Internship is an incubator for talented PhD students who are active researchers in mathematics and computer science. It is a program with challenging projects. Start and end dates are flexible with regard to academic schedules, but you will be expected to commit to about three consolidated months of full-time work at CWI. You will be working in a team of talented and enthusiastic researchers which helps you develop your skills and make you a more interesting candidate in the research field. You will be assigned an internal supervisor who will inspire you and your team. As a member of this project and team-based internship program you will have the opportunity to act as a top performer in mathematics and computer science.

We are keen to see applications from organisations that have involved young people in the development of ideas, design and delivery of projects. Kezia’s brother Ben and local representatives will be involved in the assessment of applications and decision making

The fund aims to:

1. Increase and/or improve mental health and wellbeing provision for children and young people in Jersey
2. Empower young people to develop their own initiatives
3. Enable young people to take an active role in the designing and delivery of activities in their community

Criteria

• Grants will typically be between £5,000 - £20,0000, however smaller and larger applications will be considered.
• The fund will prioritise activity supporting children and young people aged 5 – 25 years, but other age ranges will be considered.
• Funding can build on current activity and/or develop new provision.
• Funding bids should include an amount for organisational overheads if applicable. For example, this could include a contribution towards your rent, overheads, management and administration costs.

Examples of activities that could be included

We are very open to considering a wide range of different projects and are keen to have a variety of activity going on, accessible across the Island, to support young people’s mental health. Activities could be:

• Sports
• Music
• Arts
• General Youth Sessions
• Counselling
• Developing support networks
• Family counselling
• Mentoring

Who should not apply/ what work will not be supported

• Individuals
• Private Businesses
• General appeals or sponsorship
• Work normally funded from statutory sources
• Work undertaken by or on behalf of statutory bodies
• Work for the advancement of religion
• Work where the main beneficiaries are animals
• Work which does not directly benefit people living in Jersey
• Overseas holidays or trips

Applicants are welcome to apply for more than one project, although it should be noted that allocation of funding will take into account the aim of achieving a good spread of funding across the district.

Project proposals will be scored and prioritised for funding based on how well the answers to the questions fulfil the objectives given for each theme. They really want the grant to stimulate wider engagement around what zero carbon means in each local community. Applications that show this are more than just publicity; they are something that will help change behaviour, for example through meetings and surveys, which are likely to be well received.

Themes This year, applications are invited for projects under the 2 themes:

Reducing carbon emissions or locking up carbon Objectives: The project reduces the production of carbon emissions or reduces carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. (33%) The project contributes additional value (e.g. funding contributions; volunteer time/expertise from other sources; collaboration between organisations, and/or evidence of local and/or Member support; communication of the project to the local community). (33%) The project is sustainable and will have a ‘lifetime’ impact on the local and wider community. (33%) Community engagement on climate change Objectives: Achieving wider community engagement and behaviour change around climate change (33%) Additional value (e.g. funding contributions or contributions in kind, for example, volunteer time/expertise from other sources, collaboration between organisations, and/or evidence of local and/or Member support) (33%) The project is sustainable and will have a ‘lifetime’ impact on the local and wider community (33%). Funding Information For projects requesting more than £5,000 they would encourage applicants to seek part funding/in kind contributions in order to score highly. Conditions of Funding Organisations that are awarded a grant will be expected to comply with the following conditions as a minimum: Funding must only be used for the agreed purpose and must be spent within 12-months of the award being made except where exceptional circumstances apply, and an extension is agreed with the grants officer in writing Where a proposal anticipates financial savings or income, the applicant will need to show this will be for the benefit of the community Publicity must take place acknowledging the award provided by South Cambridgeshire District Council Any unused grant must be returned to South Cambridgeshire District Council An end of project report with photographs must be submitted to the Council within six months of project completion Applicants are encouraged to seek support for their application from their local Member. What they fund As well as capital costs we can fund: Salaries of project workers Salaries of management staff who supervise project staff. These should be in proportion to the staff time spent on the project Reasonable expenses of project staff and volunteers Marketing and publicity for the project (as appropriate) Eligibility Criteria Applicants must: Be a non-profit group or organisation based in South Cambridgeshire or benefiting South Cambridgeshire residents, OR a South Cambridgeshire parish council Non-profit organisations could include registered charities, companies limited by guarantee, unincorporated associations or clubs, community interest companies, charitable incorporated organisations, community benefit societies, social enterprises, established voluntary sector organisations and community shops with an appropriate legal structure (not profit-making). Schools and any other organisations can apply for a grant for a project which is accessible to the community and not just for educational purposes. Applications from informal community groups and local businesses are also encouraged provided they partner with an eligible non-profit organisation as listed above. The lead applicant must be the non-profit organisation and as such will be required to demonstrate an appropriate level of involvement in the project. Commercial businesses are not eligible to apply. Have a written constitution or mission statement Have an elected committee or representative steering group Have a bank account Be able to provide an up-to-date copy of their accounts and any relevant protection policies. Parish councils can signpost them to relevant online documentation and do not need to submit hard copies.
