At the LHoFT, we strongly believe that financial technology is crucial to advancing financial inclusion, empowering groups that have been left behind by the traditional financial system. Whether it’s financing for rural farmers, point of sale technology for underbanked merchants, or specialised insurance products, the positive impact being driven by entrepreneurship is improving lives around the world. As such, Financial Inclusion is a key focus of the LHoFT Foundation.

Building on the success of the previous editions of CATAPULT: Inclusion Africa since 2018, we are thrilled to announce that the 6th acceleration bootcamp will be run in French and will be hosted in Togo between 16th and 20th October 2023.

Supported by the Directorate for Development Cooperation and Humanitarian Affairs and developed by the LHoFT Foundation, the programme targets companies focusing on financial inclusion in Africa, aiming to build bridges with Luxembourg’s Microfinance industry while highlighting their initiatives in alignment with the sustainability goals of Luxembourg’s finance center.

This 6th edition will once again leverage Luxembourg ‘s Inclusive Finance and Fintech ecosystem to support selected firms in developing their businesses and achieving their inclusion goals. In addition, firms will participate in the African Micro Finance Week (SAM) thus gathering with the whole Micro Finance community while making meaningful connections with entrepreneurs, VCs, IMFs and many more.

SOLEIL est le synchrotron national français, situé sur le plateau de Saclay près de Paris. C'est un laboratoire pluridisciplinaire d'instrumentation et de recherche dont la mission est de mener des recherches utilisant le rayonnement synchrotron, de développer une instrumentation de pointe sur les lignes de lumière et de mettre ces développements à la disposition de la communauté scientifique. Le synchrotron SOLEIL, outil unique pour la recherche académique et les applications industrielles dans un large éventail de disciplines telles que la physique, la biologie, la chimie, etc., a ouvert ses portes en 2008. Il est utilisé chaque année par des milliers de chercheurs français et étrangers. SOLEIL s'appuie sur une source synchrotron à la pointe de la technologie tant en termes de brillance que de stabilité. Cette grande installation, partenaire de l'Université Paris Saclay, est une entreprise privée « publique », fondée par le CNRS et le CEA.

Le synchrotron SOLEIL ouvre un poste de post-doctorant sur la ligne de lumière DEIMOS (Dichroism Experimental Installation for Magneto-Optical Spectroscopy, www.synchrotron-soleil.fr/en/beamlines/deimos). Le DEIMOSLa ligne de lumière est dédiée aux mesures d'absorption et dichroïques dans la gamme d'énergie 350-2500 eV et possède une expertise de longue date dans le développement de dispositifs à basse température et à champ magnétique élevé. Notre dernière réalisation est un réfrigérateur à dilution 3He-4He développé pour atteindre une température inférieure à Kelvin tout en effectuant des mesures XAS dans la plage d'énergie douce. Nous avons également commencé à étudier les caractéristiques d'une toute nouvelle station terminale sans cryogène pour les températures ultra-basses. Le candidat postdoctoral recherché participera aux aspects de mise en service / développement de ces instruments uniques. De plus, son activité de recherche devra faire bon usage de ces environnements d'échantillons spécifiques et en particulier des températures ultra-basses (par exemple au sujet du magnétisme moléculaire ou des systèmes fortement corrélés).

I.Missions

• Vous serez impliqué à la fois dans le programme instrumental et scientifique de la ligne de lumière DEIMOS. Votre mission scientifique principale est de développer un programme de recherche original utilisant les capacités uniques des ultra-basses températures. De plus, des possibilités sont offertes pour rejoindre des collaborations existantes avec différents laboratoires européens. Votre contribution sur l'instrumentation se concentrera sur le réfrigérateur à dilution existant et le nouveau projet de développement d'une station terminale complète sans cryogène dédiée aux ultra-basses températures et aux champs magnétiques élevés.
• En tant que scientifique ligne de lumière au sein de la Division Expérimentale, vous ferez partie de l' équipe ligne de lumière DEIMOS sous la coordination du responsable de la ligne de lumière. L'équipe de la ligne de lumière gère la ligne de lumière DEIMOS pour les opérations des utilisateurs et vous aurez la responsabilité principale du "contact local" pour une partie du temps de faisceau utilisateur programmé. Cette assistance aux usagers impose des astreintes (typiquement 1 semaine par mois de faisceau y compris le week-end) et peut nécessiter, en cas de besoin, des interventions sur site en dehors des heures normales de travail.

   II. Expérience requise

Le candidat doit être titulaire d'un doctorat. ou diplôme équivalent en physique, science des matériaux, chimie ou dans une discipline connexe. Une première expérience dans un centre de rayonnement synchrotron sera grandement appréciée.

Les aspects suivants seront considérés avec la plus grande attention :

• Connaissance avérée de l'absorption des rayons X et du magnétisme ;
• Expertise en dispositifs cryogéniques ;
• Expertise des installations UHV in situ (MBE, STM, spectroscopies électroniques, diffraction électronique…) ;
• Capacité à développer des équipements expérimentaux complexes ;
• Expérience démontrée dans l'organisation de l'activité dans des installations expérimentales partagées ;
• Formation en programmation et en écriture de codes de calcul en python pour le traitement de données ;

SOLEIL is the French national synchrotron facility, located on the Saclay Plateau near Paris. It is a multi-disciplinary instrument and research laboratory whose mission is to conduct research using synchrotron radiation, to develop cutting edge instrumentation on the beamlines, and to make these developments available to the scientific community. SOLEIL synchrotron, a unique tool for both academic research and industrial applications across a wide range of disciplines including physics, biology, chemistry etc., opened in 2008. It is used annually by thousands researchers from France and abroad. SOLEIL is based on a synchrotron source that is state-of-the-art both in terms of brilliance and stability. This large scale facility, a partner of the Université Paris Saclay, is a “publically owned” private company, founded by the CNRS and the CEA.

Synchrotron SOLEIL has an opening for a post-doctoral position on the DEIMOS (Dichroism Experimental Installation for Magneto-Optical Spectroscopy, www.synchrotron-soleil.fr/en/beamlines/deimos) beamline. The DEIMOS beamline is devoted to absorption and dichroic measurements in the 350-2500 eV energy range and has a long-standing expertise in the development on low temperature and high magnetic field devices. Our latest achievement is a 3He-4He dilution refrigerator developed to reach sub-Kelvin temperature while performing XAS measurements in the soft energy range. We have also started to study the characteristics of a completely new cryogen-free end-station for ultra-low temperatures. The desired postdoctoral candidate will participate to the aspects of commissioning / development of these unique instruments. Moreover, his/her research activity should make good use of these specific sample environments and in particular the ultra-low temperatures (for instance on the subject of molecular magnetism or strongly correlated systems).

I.Missions

• You will be involved in both the instrumental and scientific program of the DEIMOS beamline. Your main scientific mission is developing an original research program using the unique capabilities of the ultra-low temperatures. In addition, possibilities are offered to join existing collaborations with different European laboratories. Your contribution on the instrumentation will focus on the existing dilution refrigerator and the new project of development of complete cryogen-free end-station dedicated to ultra-low temperatures  and high magnetic field.
• As a beamline scientist within the Experimental Division, you will be part of the DEIMOS beamline team under the coordination of the beamline leader. The beamline team manages the DEIMOS beamline for user operations and you will have primary “local contact” responsibility for a portion of the scheduled user beam time. This assistance to users imposes some on-call duty periods (typically 1 week per month of beam including the weekend) and may require, in case of need, on-site interventions outside regular working hours.

   II. Experience required

The candidate should hold a Ph.D. or equivalent degree in Physics, Materials Science, Chemistry or a related discipline. Previous experience in a synchrotron radiation center will be greatly appreciated.

The following aspects will be considered with the greatest attention:

• Proven knowledge of X-ray absorption and magnetism ;
• Expertise in cryogenic devices ;
• Expertise in UHV in situ facilities (MBE, STM, electron spectroscopies, electron diffraction…) ;
• Capability in developing complex experimental equipment ;
• Demonstrated experience in organizing the activity at shared experimental facilities ;
• Background in programming and in the writing of computational codes in python for the data treatment ;

Applications are invited for a fully funded PhD studentship (3 years) within the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Nottingham. The student will work with an interdisciplinary supervisory team with expertise in 3D printing, functional low dimensional materials and sensing.

We seek to use 3D printing to create novel multimaterial functional structures capable of new ways of sensing underlying material properties. We will use low dimensional materials, including graphene, perovskites and nanodiamonds incorporated into polymers, ceramics and glasses and we will use 3D printing to form them into geometrically complex structures. We will explore how low dimensional materials behave when included within a 3D printed matrix, and we will use their functionality to design and create sensors that can be used for, e.g., examining tissue health or failure in structures under load.

The ideal candidate will have a passion for research and an interest in using 3D printing, chemistry, materials science, or materials engineering to create innovative products. They will have a background in engineering, physics or chemistry, but also be willing to learn and explore other disciplines, as required to meet the project goals. The studentship is an exciting research collaboration between supervisors based within the Centre for Additive Manufacturing (https://www.nottingham.ac.uk/research/groups/cfam/) and the Optics and Photonics Group (https://www.nottingham.ac.uk/research/groups/optics-and-photonics-research-group/index.aspx). Duties In addition to providing excellent patient care, the successful candidate will provide quality clinical teaching and supervision of medical students and undergraduate residents.

The successful candidate will be an integrated member of the Point-of-Care Ultrasound Educational Team (POCUS), supervising learners in basic and advanced point-of-care ultrasound applications and conducting research original clinics.

Maharat Foundation in collaboration with Free Press Unlimited (FPU), is launching an opportunity to apply for the second innovation grant within a program called “Core Support for Independent Media in the Southern Neighborhood” with the support of the European Union.

Who can Apply:

1- Media start-ups; journalism incubators

2- Innovative media initiatives

3- Non-profit and for-profit media organizations

4- Individual journalists (freelancers) and entrepreneurs, journalist collectives

Additionally, any initiatives or applicants which have previously benefited from funding under the ‘Core Support for Independent Media in the Southern Neighbourhood’ are ineligible for this grant cycle.

Target countries:

Algeria, Egypt, Palestine, Lebanon, Jordan, Libya, Tunisia, Syria

Maximum duration of the grant is six months and aims to support projects that can advance new or scale up promising media innovation.

The selected candidates will benefit from support on design thinking methods and will be mentored by the regional partner (Maharat Foundation) based on their needs and demands.

Terms of submission and selection:

- Innovative (out of the box thinking, new alliances and partnership)

- Ability to commit and collaborate with project coordinators

- The ability to diversify sources and reach marginalized groups

Duration and Budget:

The mission of the National Operating Committee on Standards for Athletic Equipment (NOCSAE) is to commission research in sports medicine and science and, where feasible, establish standards for athletic equipment. Accordingly, the intent of the NOCSAE grant program is to commission investigator-initiated research and to provide support for education, health, and safety research and development. The NOCSAE research plan proposed by the applicant must be related to NOCSAE’s stated program interests. NOCSAE will fund awards under two separate mechanisms:

1. Small pilot developmental studies that do not exceed $50,000 in direct costs for one year
2. Traditional research projects that do not exceed $250,000 in direct costs over two years

SPECIFIC AREAS OF RESEARCH INTEREST

NOCSAE invites all investigator-initiated proposals that address NOCSAE’S core mission. Specific research topics of interest include, but are not limited to:

• Studies that inform existing helmet safety standards
• The mechanical and biological mechanisms of injury and recovery
• The application of developed tools and equipment for injury prevention
• Studies related to the development of new equipment safety standards
• Studies related to sport safety

ELIGIBLE APPLICANTS

NOCSAE awards grants to organizations of all types (universities, colleges, small businesses, for profit, etc.) within North America. Our grant mechanisms allow an investigator to define the scientific focus or objective of the research based on a particular area of interest and competence.

GENERAL INFORMATION

• Read all information included in NOCSAE’s website related to applying for research. Strict compliance with all grant proposal instructions is required, or the proposal won’t be considered.
• Projects funded by NOCSAE typically address 1-2 well developed and specific aims.
• Ensure that the project includes both males and females. If there is not an obvious reason why the project focuses on only one gender, there must be an explicit explanation in the proposal.
• Ensure to the highest degree possible, equality in term of other demographics, including but not limited to age, race, ethnicity, etc.
• Projects related specifically to equipment design and development are not appropriate and will not be accepted.
• Projects analyzing athletic performance are also not appropriate.

2023 APPLICATION PROCEDURES AND DEADLINES

1) Large-Grant Program

This program requires a two-phase process consisting of an initial letter of intent followed by submission of a full project application. The research director will review all letters of intent and the NOCSAE board of directors will vote on which letters to move forward for a full application submission.

Bioinformatics postdoctoral position: (Level A) $91,402 to $97,927 or (Level B) $102,952 to $121,779 per annum plus an employer contribution of 17% superannuation applies.

3 year fixed term full time postdoctoral opportunity available in the newly established Adelaide Centre for Epigenetics (ACE).

One bioinformatic position available to work within Professor Jose Polo’s group in the recently established Adelaide Centre for Epigenetics (ACE). This opportunity is for high achieving postdoctoral researchers to join the recently relocated Polo group in a collaborative framework in the application and development of new computational methods for the analysis of single cell, spatial Omics, and epigenomics data. ACE is a newly established centre within the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences focusing on epigenetic research and cell fate, which will include research in development, reprogramming and cancer.  The Adelaide Centre for Epigenetics is associated with the recently established South Australian immunoGENomics Cancer Institute (SAiGENCI) which will be the state’s world class cancer research institute.

To be successful at Level A, you will need:

• Completion of a PhD in biology, computational biology, applied mathematics, computer science, physics, biostatistics, statistics or bioinformatics or have equivalent qualifications or research experience
• Programming experience with bash, and R and/or python scripting languages.
• Experience in the analysis and integration of single cell NextGen sequencing data.
• Experience in the analysis and integration of bulk RNA-seq, ATAC-seq, ChIP-seq/ CUT&Tag-seq and DNA genome-wide methylation datasets.
• Evidence of strong contribution towards research relevant to the particular field of study/interest

In addition to the above, to be successful at Level B, you will also need:

• Strong track record of high-quality publications and conference presentations relative to opportunity

• Techniques for reproducible research and version control, including but not limited to experience generating knitr reports, GitHub repositories, and R package development.

• Demonstrated ability to conduct independent research, including leading research, where applicable in cancer systems and/or developmental biology using high throughput genomics
• Demonstrated experience in the preparation of successful proposal submissions to external funding bodies.
• Demonstrated capacity to supervise students.
