The Position
The Department of Resource Economics and Environmental Sociology, Faculty of Agricultural, Life & Environmental Sciences, invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor in Environmental and Resource Economics. The successful candidate will have strong theoretical foundations and advanced quantitative and analytical skills. Specific expertise in environmental policy and regulation, machine learning, experimental economics, or environmental valuation will be an asset. A research program with links to sustainable development goals, Indigenous communities, or climate change are also valued assets of a successful applicant. We also seek candidates who will support and advance university commitments to equity, diversity and inclusivity.

The successful candidate will demonstrate the potential to achieve excellence in research with an externally-funded research program, interdisciplinary research collaborations, and the training of graduate students. Interdisciplinary linkages are expected to extend to Faculties of Science and Engineering within the College of Natural and Applied Sciences and across campus. The position involves excellence in teaching at the graduate and undergraduate level. We also assume the successful candidate will contribute to the intellectual life of the university, the economics profession, and to communities and groups who partner in research.

Candidates must hold a PhD in Environmental Economics, Agricultural Economics, Resource Economics, Economics, Business Economics, or a closely related field. We also welcome applicants with non-traditional pathways to an academic career in Canada. Candidates must have already completed their PhD, or expect to receive their PhD by July 1, 2024. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.

The Department of Resource Economics and Environmental Sociology has a history of producing high quality research on relevant topics pertaining to agricultural, resource and environmental economics. The Department includes a group of highly reputable scholars and a vibrant graduate studies program with approximately 60 graduate students. Department members are engaged in several undergraduate programs in the Faculty including the BSc Agriculture, BSc Environmental and Conservation Sciences, BSc in Agricultural/Food Business Management and BSc in Forest Business Management. The department offers master and doctoral degrees in agricultural and resource economics, forest economics, risk and community resilience, and environmental sociology. The successful candidate will contribute to this tradition and build new areas of expertise both individually and as part of collaborative teams composed of people within and outside academia.
