15 PhD Scholarships in the School of Science and Technology of City, University of London

15 doctoral studentships are offered in cutting edge research areas in Engineering, Computer Science and Mathematics.

You will have the opportunity to be guided by world-leading scientists in an exciting international environment in the heart of the City of London. You will be able to fully exploit the power of our new High-Performance Computer (Hyperion) and world-class laboratories and facilities. Our Doctoral College will support you with further training in diverse transferrable skills and networking opportunities enabling you to complete your doctoral training with an all-round preparation.

Value

University and Special Doctoral Scholarships will provide:

  • A very competitive annual bursary for 3 years (£21,000/year)
  • An extra opportunity to earn around £2.2 K pa on an average (max. is around £4.3K pa) through a teaching assistantship.
  • Half tuition fee for 3 years for both UK and Overseas students.
  • An extra annual salary booster of £1500/year is offered to all successful candidates from underrepresented communities. In particular, the stipend supplement will be reserved for female, LGBTQ+ and disabled applicants.
  • £3000 available across the three years to participate in conferences and for travelling.

Eligibility

The studentships will be awarded based on outstanding academic achievement and the potential to produce cutting-edge research.

Prospective applicants must:

  • Hold a good honours degree (normally no less than a second-class honours degree or an equivalent qualification) in an appropriate subject. Exceptionally, if the first degree is in a different subject area, we can consider applications from those with a good Master’s Degree in a relevant subject or extensive professional experience in the area of their proposed research
  • Applicants whose mother tongue is not English must meet any one or a combination of the following:
    • A minimum IELTS average score of 6.5; with a minimum of 6.0 in each of the four components
    • The award of a Masters’ degree, the teaching of which was in English from an English-Speaking country.

The outcome of the selection process will be announced by the end of May. The successful candidate will formally start his/her doctorate either in July or in October 2023.
