The French Institute of Oriental Archeology (Ifao) and the Dominican Institute for Oriental Studies (Idéo) are joining forces to finance a 12-month pre-doctoral or doctoral scholarship, from September 1, 2020 to August 31, 2021. This scholarship also grants residence to Ideo and Arabic lessons at the rate of two hours of private lessons per day, five days per week, during this period.
The scholarship is in one of the disciplines carried by the members of Ideo in Cairo and invites to work on a classical Arabic corpus: philosophy, Muslim theology or grammar and linguistics.
The purpose of this scholarship is to help the beneficiary to build a corpus for the doctorate and to strengthen their linguistic skills in classical Arabic. A candidate who is not yet enrolled in a doctorate must use this year to present his candidacy for a doctoral contract from his university, the network of French Schools abroad or international mobility of the INSHS.

The medjouel.com team informs you that at the time of filing the application, the candidate must hold at least a Master 1 enrolling in one of the fields mentioned above. Three cases can arise:
1) the candidate is already registered in Master 2, the scholarship year can be used to complete the Master’s thesis, if it is not defended in June;
2) the candidate already holds a Master 2, the scholarship year may constitute a gap between the Master and the doctorate;
3) finally, the candidate is already registered for a doctorate, the scholarship year may constitute a gap in a doctoral contract or be integrated into a doctoral course in progress without a contract.
He or she must demonstrate sufficient knowledge of Arabic equivalent to a B1 level.

Duration: 12 months, from September 1, 2020 to August 31, 2021.
Amount of the scholarship: The candidate elected will benefit from a monthly scholarship of € 1,000, to which will be paid the accommodation at the Ideo and Arabic lessons (at the excluding August). He or she must already be covered by Social Security and a mutual benefit including repatriation assistance.
