RESEARCH ASSISTANT HIV CARE UNIT

PrEP (Pre Exposure Prophylaxis) is a new way of preventing HIVinfections. It has demonstrated its tremendous activity in clinical studies but knowledge gaps still remain in its practical implementation. The Institute of Tropical Medicine is setting up two clinical studies to investigate the clinical aspects of PrEP.

First, we plan to analyse routine data collected during the PrEP consultation in order to gain insight in PrEP users’ needs. This project is part of the PROMISE project coordinated by the department of Public Health. Second, we plan to conduct a multi-centric clinical trial (Gonoscreen) aiming at optimizing the screening of sexually transmitted infections (STI) among PrEP users. This trial will help to answer the question whether screening asymptomatic PrEP patients for STI’s has any benefits. In the framework of these studies we are looking for a research assistant. The research results can be used in preparing and obtaining a PhD degree.
