The research project will address the question of what forces will shape the development of agriculture and associated livelihoods in the period to 2050 and what are the implications of these drivers for the attractiveness of farming/forestry and, ultimately, generational renewal? It is a two year project funded by the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine. The objectives for this multi-actor project include the creation of new knowledge by researchers in Teagasc’s Rural Economy Development Programme and the Cork University Business School that will inform and support the creation and evaluation of regionally based future perspectives and development of associated policy options by key farming, agriculture and rural policy stakeholders. These policy options will pay particular attention to ways of developing future skills that bolster the adaptive capacity of farm enterprises and farm communities that will be required to renew rural jobs, agriculture and forestry.
