The Department of Computer Science has a vacancy for a temporary position as associate professor/assistant professor in Programming to lead and teach the Introduction to Programming course as part of the 2020 Summer School. The employment period is 3 months from July to September 2018 (100% position in July, and 20% in August and 10% in September).

We are looking for a candidate with talent and passion for teaching. Candidates will be expected to build, teach, supervise, assess and evaluate the Introduction to Programming course at the Summer School. There will also be possibilities to contribute to other Summer School courses as supervisor, assessor or guest lecturer.

Candidates will be expected to have an excellent command of programming, as well as excellent and state-of-the-art pedagogical skills, including for example using active learning, problem-based learning, universal design for learning and blended learning methods and approaches. Emphasis will be put on the candidate’s ability to communicate complex concepts in a way that is creative, accessible, easy-to-understand, and inspiring for beginners.

Tasks and responsibilities:

  • Planning, developing and delivering a 4-week “Introduction to Programming” course at Bachelor level (July 2020).
  • Supervising students online during their project period (August-September 2020).
  • Assessing student work during the whole period (oral examination in July and written reports in August-September 2020).
  • Actively contributing to the development of the OsloMet Summer School.
  • Performing administrative tasks related to the teaching, supervision and assessment activities.

Qualification requirements: 

  • The required qualifications for the position are as follows:
  • MSc and/or PhD, preferably in computer science, software engineering, informatics or related fields. Applicants with a BSc in these fields with a MSc in other areas may also apply.
  • Candidates with a completed degree in another field than computer science, software engineering, informatics or related fields will need relevant practical experience to be considered for the position.
  • Experience in teaching and supervision in Higher Education
  • Excellent written and oral English language skills

General criteria for appointments to academic positions are covered by the Regulations for appointment and promotion to academic posts.

Trial lecture will be required in connection with a personal interview.

  • Flexibility and the ability to adapt teaching, supervision and assessment to the rules and norms of OsloMet
  • Creativity in designing classroom assignments and activities
  • Experience with and interest in digital and innovative educational techniques and practices
  • Expertise and experience in working students from varied linguistic, cultural, educational and professional backgrounds
  • The ability to work independently and to be self-driven
  • Cultural curiosity and sensitivity

Remuneration

The salary for the position is in accordance with the pay for state employees: job code 1009 Assistant Professor, pay grade 51-66, NOK 456 400 – 594 400 and job code 1011 Associate professor, pay grade 60-74, NOK 532 300 – 691 400. A higher salary may be considered for particularly well-qualified applicants.
