Salary £27511 to £33797 per annum (pro-rata if applicable) depending on skills and experience (minimum £30,942 with relevant PhD).
Applications are invited for a Research Associate/Fellow position in the field of techno-economic analysis (TEA) and life cycle assessment (LCA). The position is part of the BIOMETCHEM project (Sustainable Production of Added Value Chemicals from Syngas-derived Methanol), a collaboration between University of Nottingham, Ulm University, Goethe University Frankfurt, INSA University of Toulouse, and Johnson Matthey. The BIOMETCHEM project will develop microorganisms for the conversion of methanol to higher value intermediates for pharmaceutical, food, and polymers industries.
The successful applicant will work within a multi-disciplinary team and will have primary responsibility for the development of TEA and LCA models. The position holder will work closely with experts in Synthetic Biology, Metabolic Modelling, and Bioprocess Design towards the development of comprehensive models to enable the integrated design of organisms and processes to maximise commercial benefit and sustainability.
Candidates must hold, or be about to obtain, a PhD in a relevant subject area, with a background in chemical or mechanical engineering being particularly desirable. Experience developing process models and techno-economic assessments are requirement of this positions. Experience conducting life cycle assessments of emerging technologies is considered a strong asset. Excellent communication skills and a strong track record are essential.
This is a fixed-term post until 30 April 2021. Hours pf work are full-time (36.25 hours per week), however job share arrangements may be considered.
