Michael Garron Hospital (MGH) of the Toronto East Health Network (TEHN) and the University of Toronto are seeking applications for the inaugural Michael Garron Chair in Patient Oriented Research (Research Chair). The new Research Chair will establish a program of research in partnership with patients and their families that is focused on development and translation of new knowledge to improve health care systems and practices, and will either currently hold, or be eligible to hold, a full-time clinical faculty or status-only appointment at the University of Toronto at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor. The term of appointment is five years, renewable once following a successful review and contingent upon additional funding. Effective start date is July 1, 2020, or as mutually agreed upon.

The Chair will work in partnership with leaders at MGH and the University of Toronto to establish a research program in patient-oriented research (in line with the CIHR definition), and in alignment with the strategic priorities of TEHN. The successful candidate will recognize the unique opportunities and capabilities presented by TEHN and its diverse patient population, and the research program developed should include patients and caregivers as partners, with the purpose of developing care that is values- and evidence-based as well as patient and caregiver-informed. The focus and value of the research should resonate with patients, caregivers and the community. As the inaugural Research Chair at MGH, the successful candidate will work with hospital and university leadership and advancement offices, to leverage the Research Chair toward the pursuit of future donations to MGH and TEHN.

The successful candidate will hold a PhD or an MD and additional relevant post-graduate training in health care research. Experience in the use of administrative health data and/or electronic medical record data will be an asset. Domains of health care research may include quality improvement and safety, educational scholarship, integrated system care and network development, community hospital care, urban community health and knowledge translation or implementation science. The search committee will look for evidence of research excellence in terms of research grants and publications in leading journals, but, will also strongly consider work which has shown impact for patients and health care organizations.

Applicants will be accepted until April 17, 2020. Should you be interested in this opportunity, please forward a letter of interest, an up-to-date curriculum vitae, and the names and contact information of three references to Dom.Chair@utoronto.ca.
