The program, which was launched through the “Severo Ochoa Centers of Excellence” accreditation awarded by the Spanish Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness, aimed at promoting excellence in scientific research in Spain, offers a limited number of scholarships for exceptional high-level students. Universities around the world.

The program aims at early exposure to pioneering science and research, as well as early support of exceptional students to experience first-hand the excitement and challenges posed by research projects in the variety of research topics active at ICFO.

  • Biophysics and biomedical optics
  • Optical, optoelectronic and photovoltaic detection
  • Nonlinear optics, ultrafast optics and atto-physics
  • Nanophotonics, optomechanics and nanomechanics
  • Experimental Quantum Optics and Quantum Information
  • Theoretical nanophotonics, quantum optics and quantum information

Program period

The length of stay can range from a minimum of three (3) months to a maximum of six (6) months.

Eligibility conditions (criteria)

  • Applicants   must be enrolled / enrolled   in an undergraduate or master’s program during the internship period at ICFO. Eligible fields include, but are not limited to, physics, engineering, chemistry, mathematics and biology.

Opportunity cost

(Fully funded)

  • For students living in Catalonia, the scholarship includes an allowance of 300 euros gross monthly.
  • For students who do not live in Catalonia, the scholarship includes an allowance of 600 euros gross monthly, for a full-time assignment.
  • Eligible travel expenses are also covered.
