Turku School of Economics opens positions of

1–2 UNIVERSITY TEACHERS/UNIVERSITY LECTURERS, BUSINESS STUDIES starting 1.8.2020 for the time being

University of Turku is expanding its research and education activities in technology and introducing renewed programmes in biotechnology and ICT technology and starting new programmes in mechanical engineering and material engineering. Multidisciplinary approach and especially business knowhow are strongly emphasized in the programme curriculum. We are recruiting 1-2 new university teachers or university lecturers to plan, coordinate and deliver the business-related courses for the engineering programmes both at the Bachelor and at Master’s level.

Persons selected for the positions are responsible for the business-related education offered to the engineering students by the Turku School of Economics. Person(s) selected will work in close co-operation with other subjects at Turku School of Economics and with the members of the Faculty of Engineering (starting officially 1.1.2021). Teaching in Bachelor degree is given in Finnish and the medium of instruction in Master’s level programmes is mainly English. Good skills in English language are required. Good knowledge of Finnish language is considered as an advantage for the applicant. At least one of the selected persons has to be fluent in Finnish language.

We are looking for experienced professionals with good pedagogical skills and experience of university-level teaching. Additionally, experience of online teaching is considered an advantage. We also appreciate experience of working at the interface of technology and business (either related to research, teaching and/or societal interaction). Research-orientation, co-operative skills and proactivity are also required.

A person selected to the post of university teacher is required to have an applicable higher university degree and good teaching skills. In practice, and due to the nature of the position of university teacher at the Turku School of Economics, an appropriate doctoral degree is required. When assessing the merits of the applicants for the post of university teacher, extensive competence in the field in question, pedagogical training, the ability to produce study materials and the ability to provide multifaceted teaching as well as a trial lecture will be taken into account.

An appropriate doctoral degree and the ability to provide high-quality teaching based on research and to supervise theses are required of persons selected for the post of university lecturer. When assessing the merits of the applicants for the post of university lecturer, scholarly work, practical expertise in the field in question, teaching experience and pedagogical training, ability to produce study materials and use various teaching methods in teaching, other teaching merits, and a trial lecture will be taken into account.

Relevant areas of educational background for university teacher/university lecturer include for example industrial engineering and management, supply chain management, information and knowledge management, information systems science, accounting and entrepreneurship.

The salary for a University Teacher is in accordance with the University salary system for teaching and research personnel levels 4–6 where task specific salary component is between EUR 2535,20–3423,25 per month for University Teacher. The salary for a University Lecturer is in accordance with the University salary system for teaching and research personnel levels 5–7 where task specific salary component is between EUR 2935,55–3946,50 per month for University Teacher. In addition, a personal work performance component will be paid. The personal work performance component is 6%–50% of the task specific salary component.

Positions are subject to a six months trial period.
