Work tasks

Luke is seeking one senior scientist (erikoistutkija) and one research scientist (tutkija) to participate in research and development work with carbon sequestration, measuring GHG emissions related to forage research in a multidisciplinary research group. The research group aims to improve the competitiveness of primary production with focus on crop production and physiology of forages and environmental impacts of ruminant production.

The senior scientist will be responsible for leading research on atmospheric impacts of feed crop cultivation, especially carbon sequestration and measurement of GHG fluxes. Supervising PhD thesis is expected. Active scientific communication and international co-operation is required.

Positions are located at Luke Kuopio at Maaninka research station.

Qualifications

In practice, success in the position requires doctoral degree on agricultural or environmental sciences (or comparable) and strong knowledge on working with eddy covariance and chamber methods for GHG exchange measurements, carbon balance calculations. At least basic knowledge of crop production, soil processes and modelling GHG flows in agroecosystems is preferred.

The position requires good scientific writing skills and fluent English spoken language. Existing international research networks are preferred.

Senior scientist applicant must present the ability to acquire external funding. Previous experience on leading a research team is expected, too.

Salary

 The position is at complexity level 9-10 for Research scientist and 10-11 for Senior scientist in Lukes salary system. Therefore, the position-specific salary component is for Research scientist EUR 3 540,52 – 3 928,75 per month and Senior scientist EUR 3 928,75 – 4 412,00 per month. In addition to the position-specific salary component, a salary component based on personal performance will be paid. It can be at most 50% of the position-specific salary component.
