The Ocean Frontier Institute (OFI) headquartered at Dalhousie University and in partnership with Memorial University of Newfoundland and University of Prince Edward Island, is one of the world’s most significant ocean science research collaborations. An international hub for ocean research and developing solutions for safe and sustainable ocean development, OFI brings together experts from both sides of the North Atlantic to explore the vast potential of the ocean.

OFI is seeking an inaugural Director, Strategic Engagement to build and manage strategic relationships between OFI partner universities and external partners and stakeholders to maximize the impact and effectiveness of the organization. The Director will develop and execute strategy to protect and nurture existing relationships, and build new relationships across government, industry, research institutes, and NGOs locally, nationally, and internationally. The Director will work with the senior leadership team to enhance ocean research potential through research partnerships, research-industry partnerships, and commercialization opportunities.

The ideal candidate will have a successful track record of strategy development and execution experience and strong and proven networking, partnership, and community engagement experience at the regional, national, and international level. As a member of OFI’s senior leadership team, it will also be important for the Director to be in possession of personal leadership skills appropriate to a higher education research environment, and the demonstrated ability to both lead and support team initiatives and inspire and motivate direct reports. Excellent communication skills will be critical for success in this role as will a relevant post-graduate degree. Experience within the ocean sector and a record of respectful engagement with Indigenous communities would be considered assets in the role.
