PhD student in the field of modelling plastic behavior in the environment

This PhD project builds on a material flow model of the releases of plastic to the environment developed in a previous project. The aim of the PhD is to predict the fate and behaviour of plastics in the environment (soil and water). Transport of micro- and macroplastic and fragmentation of plastic under environmental conditions will be included. The PhD student will be enrolled at ETH Zürich in the Department of Environmental System Science under the guidance of Prof. Dr. Bernd Nowack.

We are looking for an excellent candidate interested in improving the understanding of plastics in the environment. The successful candidate should hold a MSc degree in environmental sciences, environmental engineering or a related discipline. The candidate should preferably have previous experience in environmental modeling. Very good communication skills in English, orally and written, are required.
