We are inviting applications for the position of professor or associate professor in health economics in the Faculty of Social Sciences. The position is located in the Unit of Health Sciences.

Health Sciences (HES) at the Faculty of Social Sciences is a multidisciplinary health education and research unit. The most important interdisciplinary themes at HES include health and health promotion in children, the young and families; human ageing and the ageing population; and health care and social services system. HES also houses several research centres. We offer education in Bachelor and Master’s degrees in health sciences, in international Public and Global Health Master’s programme, and in three doctoral programmes. In addition, the staff participates in the education of the Licentiate Degree Programme in Medicine at the Faculty of Medicine and Health Technology.

Health economics is in the center of Tampere University’s strategical topics, in the intersection of health and society. The research in health economics focuses on e.g

  • organisation, funding and effectiveness of health services
  • health behaviour
  • cost-effectiveness

In addition, health economics has potential for multidisciplinary collaboration.

Health economics is taught widely in several degree programmes (Ba and Master’s in health sciences, Licentiate in Medicine and doctoral education in health sciences ). Understanding the fundamental concepts of the discipline is important learning outcome for students. Teaching health economics is integrated to multiple study modules, to international master´s degree programme and doctoral studies.

Job description 

We are seeking a highly motivated and accomplished academic who will

  • pursue and lead high-quality and diverse scientific research
  • develop the field of health economics as a whole and follow scientific development on their own field
  • actively seek research funding and other external funding
  • contribute to social impact and international networking and collaboration
  • create and strengthen the national and international partnerships crucial to Tampere University
  • give research-based teaching and contribute to curriculum development and student supervision on the field of health economics
  • contribute to planning and administrative tasks

Requirements 

Professor

  • applicable doctoral degree
  • high-level scholarly expertise
  • experience of leading scientific research
  • ability to provide high-quality research-based education and instruction
  • track record of winning external research funding
  • track record of international and independent scholarly activity

Associate Professor 

  • applicable doctoral degree
  • track record of international and independent scholarly activity
  • teaching skills required to successfully perform the duties and functions of the position
  • ability to lead a research group and acquire external funding
  • track record of international scholarly activity

The post requires fluency in English.

 We offer

If the appointment is at the full professor level, the appointment will be permanent from the outset. Initial appointment as associate professor is for five years and, subject to successful performance you will become a tenured member of faculty at the end of the first five-year period. You will be supported throughout the five-year period to ease transition to a permanent faculty position. A trial period of six months applies to all of our new employees.

Salaries are based on the job demands and employees’ personal performance in accordance with the Finnish University Salary System. The minimum starting salary of an associate professor will range between 4577-5130 EUR/month and of a professor between 5535-6200 EUR/month. Higher salaries may be agreed dependent upon experience and/or performance.
