The Department Operation Accelerator BESSY II is looking for

Postdoctorial scientist (f/m/d) – accelerator physics

Tasks

    • assumption of responsibility as accelerator physicist for the operation of the synchrotron radiation sources BESSY II and MLS including the active further development and optimization of operating conditions as well as support in the diagnosis of problem states (accelerator physics detective work)
    • plan, prepare and perform machine commissioning shifts to optimize BESSY II performance & reliability
    • take responsibility for accelerator components (soft-/hardware)
    • active contribution to development of accelerator physics applications
    • contribution to the BESSY III design process
  • supervisory duty for user operation for BESSY II and MLS

Requirements

  • PhD in physics, mathematics, informatics or equivalent qualification
  • experience in the field of accelerator physics, knowledge of accelerator-related technology
  • profound knowledge of modern software approaches with the ability to contribute to the local python framework
  • beneficial: practical experience in operation of electron storage rings; experience with statistical analysis, data exploration and machine learning techniques
  • being a team player with excellent English skills in speech and writing
