The CUHK School of Life Sciences (http://www.sls.cuhk.edu.hk) has more than 40 academic staff and more than 150 postgraduate students. The School supports major research activities in plant and cell biology, marine and environmental science, neuroscience and stem cells and protein structural biology. The School offers 6 undergraduate programmes: Biochemistry, Biology, Cell and Molecular Biology, Environmental Science, Food and Nutritional Science, and Molecular Biotechnology, with an overall intake of about 200 student per year in a four-year curriculum.
To further develop the School, the School is now actively hiring multiple faculties over the next several years. The School welcomes applicants with expertise in the above disciplinary areas or relevant new cutting-edge directions to apply, particularly in the following fields:
1. Any branch of environmental (terrestrial or marine) science;
2. Protein structural biology and functional study. Preference will be given to candidates with expertise in cryo-electron microscopy;
3. Neuroscience, immunology or cardiovascular system. Preference will be given to candidates with expertise in stem cell, development or nutritional biochemistry; or
4. Any other disciplines complementary to the development of the School.
Applicants should show potential for excellence in teaching and have achieved an excellent record in research. The appointees are expected to (a) develop a significant independent research programme with external grant support; (b) teach undergraduate and postgraduate courses in his/her field of expertise; and © perform service duties for the School and the University. Multidisciplinary research collaborations are encouraged within and outside the School.
Based on the background and experiences, the successful candidates will be offered the post of Professor, Associate Professor, or Assistant Professor accordingly.
Appointments will normally be made on contract basis for up to three years initially, which, subject to mutual agreement, may lead to longer-term appointment or substantiation later. Appointees will be provided with start-up funding commensurate with qualification and experience.
