PhD position

Discovery, characterization and exploitation of

natural product and xenobiotic glycosyltransferases

in Graz / Austria

The Nidetzky group @acib

We are specialists in carbohydrate-active enzymes and their application in biocatalytic syntheses. Our team of around 30 people is located at Graz Technical University. Within ACIB we push enzymes towards industrial application together with our industrial partners.

The project

The advertised project focuses on the discovery and characterization of an insufficiently characterized class of glycosyltransferases, involved in the (bio)synthesis of various bioactive natural product glycosides. The successful applicant will use bioinformatic tools identifying potential new enzyme candidates and will recombinantly express them in an appropriate expression host. High throughput and state of the art methods will be used for a comprehensive enzyme characterization. The overall goal of the project is to deepen the understanding of the biological significance and to gain mechanistic insights into this enzyme class.

That’s your profile

  • You have a strong background and a University degree in biotechnology or related disciplines.
  • You have practical experience with enzymes, including expression, purification and enzymatic assays. Experience in kinetic studies, HPLC analysis, strain engineering, is a plus
