The Département de Neurosciences at the Université de Montréal invites applications for a tenure track faculty position from candidates with expertise in the development and application of neuroprosthetic technologies. We are seeking a strong and dynamic candidate who uses experimental approaches in behaving animals with the objective to develop novel neuroprosthetic technologies and treatments. Desirable techniques include simultaneous recording of multiple cells with microelectrodes or imaging methods, the design of rapid decoders and real time delivery of biologically relevant signals. The position is open to candidates at the assistant or associate level and will be filled by a researcher with extensive interdisciplinary expertise, both in the functional neural organization of brain sensorimotor systems and engineering. The candidate will be a member of the Département de Neurosciences, with research activities on the campus of Université de Montréal, which offers state-of-the-art laboratory space and animal facilities for rodent and non-human primates research. He or she will be encouraged to become a member of TransMedTech, a large federally funded group aimed at the development of medical technologies. Montréal is a rich academic environment with a strong tradition of systems neuroscience. The candidate will have outstanding opportunities for collaborations with engineers from École Polytechnique and researchers from the Institut de Génie Biomédical of the Université de Montréal, as well as with leading experts in artificial intelligence, machine learning and deep-learning networks who are centered in MILA/IVADO at the Université de Montréal.

The candidate needs to hold a PhD in neurosciences (or equivalent) and demonstrate significant experience at the post-doctoral level in the field of neuroprosthetics ;

The candidate needs to have an exceptional track record in the field, including in development of neuroprosthetic agents, sensorimotor control, neurophysiological studies in living animal, and computational approaches ;

The ability and interest of the candidate to work in a multidisciplinary team (biochemists, biologists, engineers, bio informaticians, and clinicians) is mandatory;

An adequate knowledge of the French written and spoken language or a strong commitment to mastering the proficiency level required, in accordance to Université de Montréal’s Language Policy.
