Clinical Research Fellows -University College London (UCL)

UCL Queen Square Institute of Neurology
Department of Clinical and Experimental Epilepsy
Clinical Research Fellows (two posts)

An exciting opportunity has arisen for two Clinical Research Fellows to work on genomics in the epilepsies as part of a translational genomics programme under the supervision of Professor Sanjay Sisodiya. The appointees will be part of a growing ground-breaking genomics programme, which will acquire a large genomic dataset and perform phenotyping in order to realise translation of personalised medicine for people with epilepsy.

The posts are based at Queen Square and at the well-known Chalfont Centre for Epilepsy in Buckinghamshire with translational research facilities and onsite laboratories. The main purpose of the posts is to advance understanding of the epilepsies through detailed clinical, investigational and genomic evaluation in a large cohort of people with well-characterised epilepsies. The post holders will recruit and characterise in detail individuals and families with epilepsy for genetic, genotype-phenotype and functional studies within the overall aims of the group. Duties will include undertaking novel phenotyping, analysis of genetic data, and collaborating with the Synaptopathies initiative group (www.ucl.ac.uk/ion/synaptopathies) and other national (eg, Genomics England 100,000 Genomes project) and international initiatives. Honorary Clinical Assistant contracts will be sought from UCLH NHS Foundation Trust, for which a DBS check will be required.

Applicants must be registered Medical Practitioners and have completed general medical training, and hold MRCP, or equivalent. Experience in neurology is essential, and published experience of research in neurology or genetics, experience of phlebotomy, and knowledge of contemporary genetics are desirable. The posts are available from December 2020 and are funded by grants from the Epilepsy Society for the period to 30 November 2023 in the first instance. Appointment will be on the StR scale with starting salary in the range £37,614 – £44,092 per annum (including London Allowance) or the JDPS scale in the range £31,391 – £41,842 per annum (including London Allowance), superannuable.
