Call for PhD students Collaborative Research Center 1470 “HFpEF” Charité – University Medicine Berlin

We are looking for talented and motivated young scientists to start their PhD training in our DFG Collaborative Research Center (CRC) 1470 targeting heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF). We are offering 19 PhD positions, 11 with our partners at Charite, 8 at the Max-Delbrueck Center for Molecular Medicine (MDC), and one at the Free University (FU) Berlin.

The Doctoral Program of our CRC at Charite – University Medicine Berlin provides a comprehensive curriculum towards the successful completion of your PhD-thesis (30 ECTS credits). The curriculum covers fundamentals in molecular and cell biology, biophysics, pathophysiology, pharmacology, and translational and clinical research methodology, as well as soft skills training (communication, problem solving, and personal skills). There is ample opportunity for knowledge exchange and networking within the CRC and with our international and industry partners. The Doctoral Program aims to develop its participants into independent, well connected researchers and leading members of the scientific community.

What you need

To apply you must be graduated in human medicine or have a Master degree (or equivalent) in any discipline of biomedicine, engineering or computer science. Proficiency in English is necessary to follow the curriculum. Candidates are selected irrespective of sex, race, nationality or any other factor aside from interest and merit.

    • letter of application and motivation
    • curriculum vitae
    • copy of your bachelor certificate
    • copy of your master certificate  or projected date of graduation / and letter on good standing by your master thesis supervisor
    • certificate of English proficiency or equivalent
    • up to two letters of recommendation
    • ranked list of CRC 1470 PhD projects that you are interested in

There is no application fee. For additional questions on particular subprojects, you are welcome to contact the PIs independently.

Application process

Applications are reviewed by our Board and you will be contacted once the application period has passed. You may then be invited for an online interview and a final joint mentee – mentor matching in Berlin (kickoff meeting), which concludes the acceptance to the Program.
