Ming Wai Lau Centre for Reparative Medicine (MWLC) aims to contribute to the improvement of human health by conducting cutting-edge research in reparative medicine and related subjects, by creating a new platform for synergies between academia and innovation in Sweden and Hong Kong as well as China, and fostering future leaders in both academia and industry.
MWLC was established to further accelerate research in stem cell biology, biomedical engineering, biotechnology, and regenerative medicine. MWLC operates two nodes, one based at Karolinska Institutet in Stockholm, Sweden and the other in Hong Kong, located in Science Park, Shatin. The Hong Kong node currently includes four research groups, consisting of a total of 40-50 scientists.
Description of the research group and project
Dr. Zongli Zheng’s group has long interests in understanding cell biology related to the CRISPR gene editing system and cancers, as well as in technology innovation to solve clinical problems. Some of our technologies have been adopted globally in both research and clinical settings for precision medicine and for CRISPR genome editing. We are integrating single-cell genomics and CRISPR genome editing to identify molecular determinants, therapeutic targets, biomarkers and solutions for genetic diseases. Companion new data algorithm and software development are integral parts of these developments. We are seeking a highly motivated young scientist to join our team.
Responsibility
The position will be based in the inspiring environment in Hong Kong Science Park. The successful candidate will be working with cell biologists, genetics and computational biology scientists in understanding CRISPR biology and to develop new technology, including precision and efficient genome editing, and to contribute to providing clinical solutions to various genetic diseases. Specific responsibilities include:
-
- Design and lead research projects in big data mining in e.g. metagenomics and evolution genomics
- Develop new data algorithm, statistical models and/or bioinformatics pipelines, with inputs from cell and molecular biologists and computational biologists
- Data summary and manuscript writing for reporting and scientific journal publications
Qualifications
We are looking the following qualifications, experience and skills:
-
- A PhD degree in Metagenomics, Systems Biology, Computational Biology, Bioinformatics or a related discipline
- Knowledge in statistical methods in the context of biological systems
- Experience with programming (Python, Perl, or C++) and R
- Experience with next generation sequencing data processing and analysis
- Knowledge in CRISPR genome editing is a plus
- Proficiency in written and spoken English
- Interested in working at the boundaries of several research domains and able to work in a collaborative team
