Germany
Posted 3 years ago

The Max Planck Institute of Molecular Plant Physiology in Potsdam-Golm, Germany, is a vibrant and international institution for basic research in plant science. In our state-of-the-art building, researchers from many different backgrounds (molecular biology, genetics, biochemistry, physiology, and bioinformatics) collaborate in an interactive and integrative environment to investigate the principles of plant growth and development, and the underlying genetic, epigenetic and metabolic networks.

We seek two outstanding early-career scientists to lead independent junior research groups working in a modern area of plant biology. Candidates should hold a PhD in natural sciences, have a record of internationally recognized research accomplishments, and a strong and visionary research concept. While there is no restriction on the precise area of research, it should preferably complement and interact synergistically with the other groups and departments at the Institute (www.mpimp-golm.mpg.de).

The positions are available effective immediately and come with an initial, fixed-term contract of five years, with the possibility of extension for up to four additional years (2 × 2 years) after international review. Payment follows German public service pay scale and includes various fringe benefits in accordance with public service provisions. The group will be provided with modern laboratory space, funds for positions for a post-doc, Ph.D. student and technical assistant, and an adequate budget for running costs.

We offer a stimulating and international environment in one of the top centers for plant research in Europe. With three Max Planck Institutes, two Fraunhofer Institutes, the University of Potsdam, and a new incubator for startups, the Science Park Potsdam-Golm is the largest research campus in the state of Brandenburg, with fast access to the many research and educational facilities in Berlin. Potsdam is a very international city, situated in the heart of the Berlin-Potsdam metropolitan area, and offers a high quality of life.

The Max Planck Society is an equal opportunity employer and is striving to increase the proportion of women in areas where they are underrepresented. It therefore expressly encourages qualified female scientists to apply. The Max Planck Society is committed to increasing the number of employees with severe disabilities in its workforce. Applications from qualified persons with severe disabilities are expressly desired.
