Postdoctoral Research Fellowship: Endothelial Basis of Cardiovascular and Metabolic Disease

UNITED STATES
Posted 3 years ago

Postdoctoral positions are available in the laboratory of Dr. Philip Shaul and Dr. Chieko Mineo at UT Southwestern Medical Center (Dallas TX, USA) to study fundamental processes in endothelial cells that govern cardiovascular and metabolic health and disease. We focus our attention on molecules associated with the endothelial cell plasma membrane and how they dictate the responses of the endothelial cell to extracellular cues. Current areas of investigation in the Shaul/Mineo Lab include but are not limited to the following: a) the endothelial basis of thrombotic disorders, b) endothelial mechanisms contributing to the development of obesity and resulting type 2 diabetes and hypertension, and c) the endothelial underpinnings of atherosclerosis. Complete publication lists are available at PubMed for Dr. Shaul and Dr. Mineo.

Our discoveries are made using state-of-the-art techniques in cell and molecular biology, bioinformatics, genetic engineering in mice, intravital microscopy and other imaging modalities, and mouse models of thrombosis, type 2 diabetes, hypertension, and atherosclerosis. Our work is funded by the NIH and other sources.

We are seeking highly motivated candidates with a PhD, MD or MD/PhD. Interested candidates must have 1) a strong background in biochemistry, cell biology, molecular biology, or a related discipline, 2) a solid publication record, and 3) scientific curiosity and the desire and ability to work independently. Experience with genetic mouse models and genomic approaches is a plus. Competitive salary and benefits are offered. The Shaul/Mineo Lab and our collaborators are committed to the professional development of the trainees in preparation for academic, industrial, or entrepreneurial careers in cardiovascular or metabolism research. The position has no mandatory teaching or administrative duties.

The postdoctoral fellows in the Shaul/Mineo lab benefit from participation in the UT Southwestern Postdoctoral Training Program. Information can be found in the Postdoc Handbook or at http://www.utsouthwestern.edu/postdocs.
