Physician-Scientist Positions in Research Hospital, ShanghaiTech University

Shanghai Clinical Research and Trial Center, the Research Hospital of ShanghaiTech University, is a newly established academic health center located in the heart of Zhangjiang Hi-Tech Park, Pudong, Shanghai. Aiming to be a world-class research hospital, it was founded in 2021 with the tripartite mission of providing evidence-based practice and patient-centered care, executing value-based clinical and translational research, and educating the next generation of caregivers and researchers.

Supported by a broad and deep array of resources from Shanghai Municipal Government, Shanghai Municipal Health Commission, and ShanghaiTech University, Shanghai Clinical Research and Trial Center is committed to building an integrated platform for seamless connection between clinical needs and basic research.

It has established six disease diagnosis and treatment centers focusing on clinical/health problem-oriented research in the major fields of 1) Tumor, 2) Neurological diseases, 3) Pan-vascular diseases, 4) Respiratory system diseases, 5) Rheumatic, immune and musculoskeletal diseases, and 6) Sensory system diseases.

The 136,000 sq.m. hospital will have 500 beds, of which 300 beds will be dedicated specifically to research, with a future plan to increase to 1,000 beds as the hospital develops. We are now inviting highly qualified candidates all over the world to join our academic health community. Our recruitment and job application process will remain open year-round. Openings:

1. Physician-Scientists: Physician-Scientists work as both clinicians and researchers to help patients by conducting clinical activities and developing potential new therapies, cures, and preventative medicine options;

2. Directors of clinical departments: Senior Physicians or Physician-Scientists who lead the clinical departments and provide management and administration of department operations and services;

3. Directors of the disease diagnosis and treatment centers: Senior Physician-Scientists who implement the vision and lead the strategic direction for the center in multi-disciplinary clinical practice, research and education.

Qualifications: A successful candidate will be an MD or MD/PhD who is committed to pioneering major advances in medical practice through clinical and/or translational research.

Candidates should ideally have a strong clinical background as well as an exceptional track record of basic or translational research demonstrated by publications in leading peer-reviewed journals or successful technology transfer. International clinical/academic training or work experience is highly desired. Directors of clinical departments should be Physicians or Physician-Scientists equivalent to associate professor rank or above, and Directors of disease diagnosis and treatment centers should be Physician-Scientists equivalent to full professors, with priority given to candidates with experience in responsible leadership roles.

Physician-Scientists will be eligible to hold tenured/tenure-track faculty appointments in the Medical School of ShanghaiTech University. The academic rank and remuneration package will be commensurate with the candidate’s qualifications and experience.
