At the Department of Kindergarten Teacher Education, at the Faculty of Teacher Education and International Studies, there is a 100% permanent position available as associate professor / first lecturer in RLE, with employment from 01.01.2024.

The Institute for Kindergarten Teacher Education has approx. 2,000 students and 135 employees, and is located in Pilestredet in central Oslo. The institute offers a bachelor’s degree in kindergarten teacher training and a master’s degree in kindergarten knowledge, as well as a number of continuing and further education courses. The faculty offers Ph.D. in educational science for teacher education. The institute has extensive collaboration with kindergartens and institutions relevant to our work.

Section for RLE is a subject section that handles a number of different tasks. The advertised position will primarily be linked to teaching and supervision, in addition to research and development work, on kindergarten teacher training (BLU). It is an advantage for applicants to have teaching experience in SRLE (society, religion, outlook on life and ethics) from kindergarten teacher training, as well as pedagogical abilities and tutoring experience at various levels.

Your tasks and areas of responsibility will be to

  • teach and supervise bachelor’s, master’s and possibly PhD level
  • teach on various further education and assignment courses for the kindergarten sector
  • follow up students in practice
  • have contact with the professional field
  • carry out own research and development work
    The teacher education profile and professionally oriented research and development work are central to the faculty. Therefore, it is important that the person employed is prepared to orient himself towards profession-specific issues.
  • take the initiative for, and participate in, the development of major research projects and applications for external funding together with colleagues in the professional environment
  • seek out and participate in research collaboration with national and international partners
  • contribute to the work of further developing the professional environment and the institute’s education
  • communicate research results both to academic circles and society at large
  • actively contribute to the development of high educational quality
  • perform professional-administrative tasks

Qualification requirements

 The position of associate professor requires:

  • doctorate or equivalent in religious studies/Christianity, religion, outlook on life and ethics

As an applicant, you must document relevant educational competence in accordance with OsloMet’s Guidelines for the assessment of educational competence .

For the position of senior lecturer, the following is required:

  • documented extensive research and development work which, in terms of quality and scope, corresponds to the workload and level of a doctoral thesis in religious studies/Christianity, religion, outlook on life and ethics

and

  • special qualifications within teaching or other educational activities must be given great weight

and

  • documented relevant practical-pedagogical competence in religious studies/Christianity, religion, outlook on life and ethics, on the basis of education or teaching and guidance

General criteria for employment in teaching and research positions can be found in the Regulations on employment and promotion in teaching and research positions

For both positions, the following is required:

  • good written and oral presentation skills in Norwegian or another Scandinavian language and English

Emphasis will be placed on that

  • teaching experience in SRLE from kindergarten teacher training
  • supervisory experience at various levels
  • pedagogical abilities
  • research and development work that is relevant to the position
  • experience with research networks and projects with external funding
  • potential for project acquisition
  • competence in religious studies with an emphasis on religious anthropology
  • teaching experience in method
  • experience with professional-administrative work
  • knowledge of or experience from the nursery field
  • good digital competence, including experience with student-active forms of learning and the use of digital teaching and assessment tools

Particular emphasis will be placed on the criteria of competence in religious studies, teaching experience, experience with professional administrative work, as well as personal suitability. We also emphasize that you are collaborative and motivated to build professional communities, be concerned with new thinking and innovation in education, research and development work.

The position is paid in accordance with the Central Tariff Agreements in the state and OsloMet’s salary policy for (first assistant professor in code 1011, senior lecturer in code 1198), with NOK
615,700 – 745,000 per year. A 2% pension contribution to the State Pension Fund (SPK) is deducted from the salary. For particularly qualified applicants, a higher salary may be considered.

For associate professors, the following must also be attached:

  • documentation of educational competence including profiling document

Applicants who cannot document basic university teaching competence must work this up within two years of joining. OsloMet offers a course in university pedagogy that meets this requirement.

For senior lecturers, the following must also be attached:

  • documented relevant practical-pedagogical competence on the basis of education or teaching and guidance.
