ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

The Postdoctoral Research Associate would join the Northeastern group for its research with the Compact Muon Solenoid (CMS) experiment at the Large Hadron Collider at the CERN laboratory in Geneva, Switzerland. The position will be based at CERN.

The Northeastern CMS group has leading involvements in the operation and upgrade of the endcap muon system as well as the operation and upgrades of the electromagnetic calorimeter and the Level-1 trigger. Physics efforts include searches for phenomena beyond the standard model, di-Higgs boson studies, and precision electroweak and QCD measurements. The successful candidate is expected to contribute to the upgrade of the CMS endcap muon system, as well as to take a leading role in physics data analysis. The candidate will also have the opportunity to work with Ph.D. and undergraduate students.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist in initiating, executing, and completing research and experiments
  • Prepare and write research papers, presentations, grant proposals
  • Laboratory management
  • Train graduate students

QUALIFICATIONS

A Ph.D. or equivalent degree in Experimental Particle Physics by the time of the appointment is required. Candidates should have a strong record of recent accomplishments in data analysis and in detector hardware or software.
