The new Technical University of Nuremberg:
The Free State of Bavaria is founding a new technical university (teaching and research facility with the mandate to award doctorates and postdoctoral degrees) with a profile that will be unique across Germany. We aim to design a fully digitized campus university which will be cross-linked internally through its organization and externally into industry and society, and will be open towards the city. This university will have a strong international focus and realize the consistent link between technical sciences, natural sciences, humanities and social sciences. The university campus will come to life on a property of 37 hectares on Bruneckerstrasse in Nuremberg. It will house approximately 6,000 students in the long term.
For the Free State of Bavaria, the founding of the Technical University of Nuremberg is one of the most eminent projects in science policy. The German Council of Science and Humanities has given the founding concept a positive assessment.
During the founding period, the president will be responsible for the installation and management of the Techincal University of Nuremberg including the further development of the concept. The implementation process shall take into account the review of the Council of Science and Humanities of January 31st 2020, with particular attention to the appointment of the first professors and ensuring the most timely commencement of teaching and research activities. The tasks will be determined by the Bavarian Higher Education Act and the Act on the establishment of the Technical University of Nuremberg which is currently in preparation. The work location is Nuremberg.
Our offer:
The founding president will be appointed by the Bavarian State Minister of Science and the Arts for a term of five years; a renewal of the appointment is possible. The Founding President will be appointed as a civil servant for a limited period („Beamter auf Zeit“) at pay scale W3. In addition to the base salary, negotiable premiums will be granted, which will consider the importance of the office and take into account the applicant’s previous experience. The temporary appointment will terminate at the end of the term of office. Under certain circumstances, a private-law contract may be taken into account.
Qualifications:
We are looking for a dynamic leader with an international scientific reputation and a strong motivation to promote this new and innovative project. The position requires an integration-oriented and cooperative attitude as well as a team-building and network thinking-approach. The profile includes extensive experience in a management position at a renowned university or research institution. Moreover, we seek candidates proficient in academic (preferably digital) teaching; they should also have convincing ideas for the founding phase of the Technical University of Nuremberg and have completed a university education. It will be essential to comprehensively implement digitization and interdisciplinary cross-links in research, teaching, infrastructure, administration, and transfer as core elements of the new university. Knowledge of the German higher education and science system including higher education policy is expected.
