Assistant, Associate, or Professor in Human Genomics and Precision Medicine – Somatic Genomics, University of Wisconsin-Madison (UW-Madison)

The Center for Human Genomics and Precision Medicine (CHGPM) was recently established at the University of Wisconsin-Madison to lead a large-scale expansion of the University’s activities in applied genomics and personalized medicine. The CHGPM’s multifaceted application of genomic sciences to clinical medicine encompasses basic, translational and clinical research as well as educational activities and community outreach. The Center now is entering a phase of rapid growth, recruiting multiple tenure-track faculty with expertise relevant to advancing scientific knowledge relevant to genomic medicine and developing new strategies for improving health.

As part of our recruiting efforts, the UW Center for Human Genomics and Precision Medicine seeks to hire one tenure track faculty member in human genomics and/or precision medicine. The successful candidate will be expected to develop an independent and highly-collaborative research program focused on 1) the role of somatic mutations in cancer or other human disease; and/or 2) development of new techniques for assessing somatic mosaicism, lineage tracing, and/or cell free DNA analyses. The tenure home of the successful applicant will be determined at the time of hire in a Department of the School of Medicine and Public Health.

As a member of the Center, the successful candidate will be given space in the Center’s new facilities, which includes CLIA-compliant diagnostic laboratory space, as well as significant financial resources for their research program. They also will have access to all of the benefits of a preeminent public research university that is 6th in the nation in research funding, including an extensive computational infrastructure as well as substantial omics-related core facilities. The Departments of Medical Genetics and Genetics, the Waisman Center, the Genome Center of Wisconsin, the UW Biotechnology Center, and the Carbone Cancer Center provide additional support for the local genetics/genomics community, which hosts the oldest and largest NIH-funded training graduate program in genetics, a MSc genetic counselling program, and ABMG-accredited fellowship programs.

Qualifications:

Ph.D. in genetics or a related discipline is required.

At least three (3) years of post-doctoral training is required. Successful candidates will have a demonstrated potential for excellence in somatic genomic analysis exemplified through their research, publications, grants, teaching, or seminars. All candidates must have proven success in leading and conducting research and teaching appropriate to their stage of career. Associate/Full Professor candidates must possess experience and scholarly credentials for appointment with tenure at the University of Wisconsin-Madison (UW-Madison). A key consideration is the ability to and interest in working in a collaborative interdisciplinary environment.
