Position Overview

The Department of Medicine in the Cumming School of Medicine invites applications for a Position Title. This Fixed Term Recurring Part-time position is for approximately 1 year (based on length of grant funding), with the possibility of extension.

This position reports to the Principal Investigator.

This project will involve the Research Assistant contacting potential participants to obtain consent, complete participant interviews and chart reviews. You will be working in an office on the Foothills Medical Centre Campus.

This is recurring part-time position.  Recurring part-time employees are hourly employees engaged to perform work on an irregular basis.

Position Description

Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):

  • Setup and display posters for recruitment in the Long Term Care Facilities
  • Communicate with the facility about the study
  • Go to facility to recruit patients with local facility staff
  • Obtain consent and administer questionnaires
  • Obtain consent form surrogate decision makers as appropriate
  • Coordinate with other students to schedule a second call with patients
  • Record data from visit, and do chart reviews
  • Establishes and maintains effective, productive relationships with staff, peers, immediate supervisor and senior management and with the campus community
  • Manages own time effectively and ensures immediate reports to manager is kept informed of activities, and progress of work
  • Demonstrated strong communication, team and customer service skills, and an ability to exercise judgment within established guidelines

Qualifications / Requirements:

  • Bachelor Degree – Health Sciences, Biological Sciences
  • Undergraduate degree required
  • Minimum 2 years of related experience
  • Masters Degree Preferred
  • A combination of education and experience will be considered
  • Advanced skills in statistical software programs (eg. SAS, STATA, Endnote)
  • Intermediate to advanced skills in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint), Internet skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Demonstrated ability for professional report writing
  • Knowledge of research ethics and regulations for granting agencies (eg. Tri Council)
  • Ability to problem solve in complex situations
  • Demonstrated strong communication, team and customer service skills, and an ability to exercise judgment within established guidelines
  • Must be open to learning and development, and be willing to accept new challenges and assignments
  • A positive attitude and the ability to work independently and as part of a team are critical to success
