Applications are invited from qualified candidates for a full time, tenure-track faculty librarian position with the University Library. We are seeking a dynamic, innovative, and flexible individual with the appropriate skills and qualifications to work collaboratively as part of our team, and to contribute to library-wide projects and priorities.
Reporting to the Dean through the Associate Dean, Client Services, the successful candidate will be responsible for:
- Increasing the usability, discovery, and access of data and GIS resources through reference, research consultations, workshops, instruction, online research guides, and outreach
- Enhancing and managing existing data collections
- Participating in the review, assessment, and selection of GIS/data-related software, systems, and/or services
- Developing and maintaining collaborative relationships with relevant University of Saskatchewan (USask) and external partners to understand their needs, support their priorities, and promote related library services/resources as appropriate
- Working as part of teams across the Library to advance strategic areas such as scholarly communication, research infrastructure, student learning, and decolonization of services, collections, and spaces
- Developing professional knowledge and skills on a continuing basis
- Undertaking liaison duties in related discipline(s) as appropriate
- Engaging in research and scholarly activity leading to the development of a formal program of research and contributing to the scholarly conversation via peer-reviewed publications and other outlets.
Research and scholarly work is a requirement for tenure-track librarians as defined in the University Library Standards for Promotion and Tenure. Examples of librarians’ scholarly work can be found in HARVEST, the USask institutional repository. Librarians are expected to participate in collegial committee work and engage with academic or professional organizations.

Qualifications
We are seeking candidates who have an ALA-accredited Master of Library and Information Science degree or equivalent library degree. Education or experience in social sciences, geospatial, or other relevant studies is an asset. Candidates must also be able to demonstrate:
- Knowledge of statistical and data resources, and GIS
- Experience working with students and faculty from a variety of disciplines in an academic institution
- Ability to develop and sustain effective and collaborative professional working relationships, partnerships, and teams
- Ability to teach effectively in both group and individual settings, in person and online
- Interest and ability to conduct research and contribute to scholarship
- Commitment to developing professional knowledge and skills on a continuing basis
- Strong analytical, problem solving, and organizational skills
- Excellent written and oral communication
- Flexibility, enthusiasm, and creativity
- Initiative and self-motivation.
It is preferred that candidates also demonstrate:
- Educational background in, or experience with, GIS and/or statistical software packages (e.g. NVivo, Atlas.ti, ArcGIS, SPSS, SAS, R, and/or Python)
- Experience with reference/research consultation and collections
- Knowledge of trends in data/GIS.
Salary bands for this position for the 2020-2021 academic year are as follows: Assistant Librarian: $80,116 to $96,301; Associate Librarian: $96,301 to $115,723; Librarian: $115,723 to $141,619.
