University of Alberta Doctoral Recruitment Scholarship, Canada

The purpose of this scholarship is to recruit graduate students at the doctoral level who have the potential to contribute to the University of Alberta community and research.

University of Alberta Doctoral Recruitment Award

  • Value The scholarships will be offered in increments of $ 5,000. The ministry can decide how many increases of $ 5,000 to offer a student.
  • The value of the award varies and is stated in the original letter of offer.
  • Eligibility The scholarship will be awarded to students who:
    • Are Canadian citizens, permanent residents or students
    holding a study permit • Are admitted to a doctoral program by the department or transferred from a master’s to a doctoral program • Are
    enrolled full-time in a doctoral program
    • Have an admission average of at least 3.5
    Departments may have additional selection criteria; for more details, students should  consult the department  in which they wish to be admitted.
  • Application Procedures There is no application form; Eligible students are considered on the recommendation of the admissions department. Students cannot apply for this scholarship. Students should  contact their admissions department   for more information .
  • Nomination Procedures Each department is assigned a stipend (please see link below ). Individual graduate departments are responsible for selecting applicants based on eligibility criteria and stipends . Departments may choose to nominate candidates based on a variety of criteria including academic record , letters of evaluation, program statement, candidate’s research , potential research contributions, and other technical experience.For the departments: •  Application form for a doctoral recruitment grant

  • 1. The Department nominates students to the Faculty of Graduate Studies and Research (FGSR) before the nomination deadline
    2. The FGSR verifies the eligibility
    3. The FGSR approves the award
    4. The FGSR notifies the winners directly
  • Deadline The application deadlines are based on the start dates and are as follows:
    • For students whose start date is May 1, 2020, the deadline is  April 15, 2020  .
    • For students with a start date of  July 1, 2020  , the deadline is  May 1, 2020  .
    • For students whose start date is September 1, 2020, the deadline is  July 2, 2020  .
    • For students with a start date of January 1, 2021, the deadline is  November 2, 2020  .
    Note: Any changes to an original application must also be received by the dates specified above.
