Computing Fellowship: Full-Stack Software Engineer

Company Description

At CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research, physicists and engineers are probing the fundamental structure of the universe. Using the world’s largest and most complex scientific instruments, they study the basic constituents of matter – fundamental particles that are made to collide together at close to the speed of light. The process gives physicists clues about how particles interact, and provides insights into the fundamental laws of nature. Find out more on http://home.cern.

Diversity has been an integral part of CERN’s mission since its foundation and is an established value of the Organization.

Job Description

We are working on Zenodo, a service that allows researchers from all disciplines to publish and share their research outputs.

You will be part of a small and dynamic team working in the CERN Information Technology Department. We are using mostly the Python programming language with Flask, Celery, PostgreSQL, and ElasticSearch on the back-end and ReactJS on the front-end. As part of our work you will be also contributing to Invenio, an open-source framework for building digital repositories.

You will contribute to the development and operation of the Zenodo service, a live system with millions of users every year, serving small and large data files, high throughput REST APIs, and a top of the class UX. This will consist of working closely with our collaborators to design, develop, and deploy new features that enable and make it easier for researchers to publish and discover datasets and software, in-line with the best practices in the open science and research movement. You will be also improving the platform’s infrastructure resilience, monitoring, and CI/CD workflows.

There are many challenges and opportunities that are bound to match some of your computing interests and strengths!
