A number of online master’s scholarships are available in the field of ophthalmology for students from Africa, Central and South Asia, the Caribbean Islands, the Pacific Islands, Central America and Latin American who were accepted for admission online part-time over two years. Price
Each scholarship will cover tuition fees for the entire study program and the funding of a laptop computer and Internet service. The price is valid for two academic years, subject to academic progress.
The scholarship is funded by the generous support of the David and Molly Pyott Foundation.
Eligibility
Scholarships will be awarded to students who are accepted for admission to the Master of Online Surgery (ChM) in Clinical Ophthalmology at the University of Edinburgh, one of Edinburgh’s online surgery master’s programs. Applicants should already have been offered a place at the University of Edinburgh and should have firmly accepted or intended to do so. Criteria
The selection is based on academic merit and the personal statement in which you describe your current contribution to local and national ophthalmological development plans in your country and how you will use the scholarship to further contribute to the development of ophthalmology services in your country.
Successful candidates will commit to working in the ophthalmology department of their country at the end of their studies; use their new skills to improve and further develop the service; and to foster clinical and academic links between medical universities, teaching hospitals and research institutes in ophthalmology in their country and the University of Edinburgh.
Apply
- Complete an EUCLID online application for the ChM (Master of Surgery) in Clinical Ophthalmology – instructions on the full application process can be found on the University’s diploma search page here . Wait for the decision on the request via EUCLID.
- If you are eligible to join the course, you will receive a conditional or unconditional offer, which you must accept before applying for a scholarship.
- An online application for the scholarship through the online site of Edinburgh surgery (ESO) Scholarships section before Monday 1 st June 2020.
In the ESO grants section, click on the title of the David and Molly Pyott Foundation grants, then click on the link to apply online. You will be asked to enter the following information:
Page 1 and 2: University Application Number
Enter your university application number (UUN) which you will have received from your EUCLID online application for a place on the ChM.
Page 2: Tell us where you are based
Do you live and be a national of one of the low or middle income countries mentioned above? (Yes / No) Please indicate which one (s).
Page 3: Personal statement
Include a personal statement (maximum 500 words) in which you describe the following:
- your reason for applying for the master program
- how doing this program will benefit your career; and
- how you plan to take this course to improve your work practices in order to transform ophthalmology services in your country to improve eye care.
Page 4: CV (CV)
Attach a copy of your CV (CV).
Page 5: Letter of Support
Attach a letter of support to your scholarship application from your supervisor or director of the ophthalmology education / training program in your locality. It is important for us that our researchers are supported in their workplace while studying with us.
Final page
Recognition of your scholarship application will be provided by the ESO team in due course.
Notification
All applicants will be informed of the result by the end of July 2020.
