The Max Planck Institute for the History of Science, Berlin (Department III, Artefacts, Action, and Knowledge, Directed by Prof. Dagmar Schäfer) seeks Two Postdoctoral Fellowsstarting September 1, 2019 for three years, with employment contract.
The positions are in close conjunction with the research agenda of Dept. III.
Outstanding junior scholars with suitable experience in science-, technology-, economic history, STS, anthropology, regional studies, or other relevant fields are invited to apply.
Candidates should hold a doctorate in the history of science or related field at the time the position begins (PhD awarded in 2016 or later), and be able to show evidence of scholarly excellence in the form of initial international publications. Research projects should relate to the research agenda of Department III.
The Max Planck Institute for the History of Science is an international and interdisciplinary research institute. Postdoctoral Fellows are expected to participate in the research activities of the Institute, and to present their own work and discuss that of others fluently in English. Applications may be submitted in German, English, or French.
The position is primarily devoted to research, with no teaching and with minor administrative duties for the Research Group. Remuneration is based on the TVöD-Bund pay scales (E13).

“First Research Article” Fellowship Program
at the Max Planck Institute for the History of Science, Berlin
September 1, 2019–January 31, 2020The Max Planck Institute for the History of Science, Berlin (MPIWG), Department III Artefacts, Action, and Knowledge (Director: Prof. Dagmar Schäfer), is offering two fellowships for outstanding graduate students.
The fellowships are open to graduate students based at Asian, African or Latin American institutions. Applicants should demonstrate their commitment to a research topic related to the History of Science, Technology, and Medicine, or Science and Technology Studies and a need to work with an international community at the MPIWG, Berlin in order to prepare and publish their first single-authored research paper in the English language. Eligible are students in good standing through the grant period of January 31, 2020.
Candidates are expected to have already completed the archival research for their thesis and be in a position to devote six months to writing and preparing an article in English for journal publication. Regular meetings will be held to support both the writing process and academic development.
The fellowships will run from September 1, 2019 to January 31, 2020.

About the Position
The Max Planck Institute for the History of Science (MPIWG) invites journalists to apply for library scholarships. For a period of two to four weeks, successful applicants will have access to the collections of the MPIWG library, including all of its electronic resources (for more information about the library, see the library page). It is expected for the applicants to have a clear journalistic profile and an interest in the history of science.
Applications should include a Curriculum Vitae, selected bibliography, outline of the proposed project to be worked on at the MPIWG (maximum of 200 words), and an indication of the desired period of stay (at least six weeks after application). Scholarships are awarded according to the availability of the library workspaces.
