Excellence Scholarships for Master Cancer 2024-2025

The University of Lyon 1 is very proud to announce scholarships in support of excellent students who wish to take up their Master’s studies in France, in a master program dedicated to Cancer. Scholarships are supported by the graduate initiative InnovInOnco.

Scholarships for Master 2 are open for the academic year 2024-2025 to join the master Cancer :

Within the framework of the International Development Graduate Track (Training in oncology), we are offering Master 1 and Master 2 scholarships for 2024-2025:

From September 2024 to June 2025 : 1000 €/month, 10 month-scholarship

Academic year is starting in September

Note:

For European students, possibility to combine this scholarship with other international aid programmes.

Who can apply ?

  • International student = Foreign citizen (exception for French binationals), and being enrolled in a higher education establishment outside France at the time of the application
  • For Master 1: student with a Bachelor’s degree
  • For Master 2: first year of Master’s degree related to oncology, or related interdisciplinary fields (biosciences, biophysics, bioinformatics)

Procedure:

From 15/05 to 24/05: selection of the candidates for an interview (remotely)

From 24/05 to 31/05: the preselected candidate should apply to eCandidat or Campus France, depending on their nationality (see administrative procedure below).

The students will be informed on their selection by 21/06/2024

 

Selection criteria:

– Excellent academic record

– Knowledge in basic cancer biology

– Willing to turn towards interdisciplinarity

The Master Cancer is organised as follows:

  1. Master 1 Cancer
  2. Students can choose one out of three specialities in Master 2:

 

  • Cancer Biology (courses taught in English upon request)

Focus on the latest fundamental discoveries in the biological mechanisms of cancer – Lectures given by internationally recognised researchers. The 1st semester consists of a series of seminars on the latest developments in oncology, a symposium organized by the students themselves, common to all 4 Cancer master’s courses and a 2-month research internship. The 2nd semester consists of courses that enable students to build a research project in response to a research call, courses on technological innovations and a 4 months-research internship.

  • Therapeutic Innovations in Oncology (courses taught in English upon request)

Focus on drug design, therapeutic innovations and clinical trials in oncology in collaboration with Professors from the Lyon Veterinary School (cancers in pets). The 1st semester consists of courses dedicated to drug design, clinical trials and pharmaco-toxicology, a symposium organized by the students themselves, common to all 4 Cancer master’s courses, and a 2 months-research internship. The 2sd semester consists of lectures organized by Lyon Veterinary School professors on spontaneous animal cancers and their potential as a model for studying human cancers, courses that enable students to build a research project in response to a research call and a 4 months-research internship.

  • Cancer Bioengineering Master (all compulsory courses are tought in English)

Focus on the transdisciplinary teaching of physico-chemical properties of cancers, innovative technologies (biomechanics in 3D models, microfluidics and new devices) to better approach the physiology of the tumour in vitro. The 1st semester consists to an introduction to multidisciplinary complexity of cancer, lectures on innovative in vitro models, Physical aspects of cancer, engineering project, quantitative approaches and a symposium organized by the students themselves, common to all 4 Cancer master’s courses. The 2sd semester consists of a 6 months-research internship.

STEP 1:  Students apply to the call for scholarship via email

STEP 2: If selected, they should act according to their situation:

Students living in one of the countries covered by the CAMPUSFRANCE / ETUDES EN FRANCE scheme must follow the CEF (Centre pour les Etudes en France) procedure on the Etudes en France server (electronic file), which begins in October.

Students must consult the Campus France website for their country of residence or contact them to find out about the dates and procedures to be followed: https://www.campusfrance.org/fr/espaces .

Students living in France or abroad in a country not covered by the Campus France-Etudes en France scheme must apply via eCandidat : https://ecandidat.univ-lyon1.fr/ (Open from 01/03/2024 to 31/05/2024)

Required supporting documents

  • Certificate of registration from the student’s home university
  • Academic record, ECTS grades or similar merit-based criteria
  • Language requirements: TOEFL or IELTS or Cambridge certificate to certify the student’s level of English proficiency (minimum B2)
  • Letter of motivation (mandatory)
  • European students must provide a copy of their current, valid ID (or passport)
  • International candidates must provide a copy of their current, valid passport
  • Optional : reference letter with contact details of one academic referee
