Position Description
The University of Calgary and Alberta Health Services invite applications for the joint position of Head, Department of Medicine, Cumming School of Medicine, and Zone Clinical Department Head, Medicine, Calgary Zone, Alberta Health Services. These are key leadership positions within the Cumming School of Medicine (CSM) and Alberta Health Services (AHS). The successful candidate would be offered an academic appointment with Tenure at the Professor level.
The Department of Medicine is the largest department in the Cumming School of Medicine. The Department has a full range of accredited residency training programs located in the major acute care hospitals of Calgary and the surrounding area, active postgraduate and graduate studies programs and a strong record of accomplishments in research. In the AHS role, the incumbent will lead and participate in the development of system wide clinical services within the Calgary Zone, through the Department of Medicine and its Sections. The ZCDH will be required to maintain and recruit an appropriately trained physician workforce, ensure high standards of clinical care, quality improvement and ethical conduct of the medical staff, foster maintenance of competence and promote a learning environment for physicians, students, staff and researchers within the zone. The ZCDH has an important role in providing strategic direction and fostering innovation within the Department and Calgary Zone.
Qualifications include an MD and eligibility for licensure in the Province of Alberta. Candidates must have a strong academic background with academic qualifications commensurate with a tenured appointment at the rank of Professor as well as demonstrated research and educational achievements, proven administrative ability (with a minimum of five years of leadership experience) and clinical skills. This role requires an individual experienced in leading complex teams through system-wide changes. Academic duties will include research, education, and service.
