Postdoctoral Fellow in Transport Proteins -Technical University of Denmark (DTU)

The Yeast Metabolic Engineering group develops novel yeast cell factories for the production of sustainable chemicals and natural products. We apply advanced genome editing, metabolic modeling, and ‘omic data analyses for data-guided strain design. We are looking for a motivated and talented researcher to join our team.

The position is within expression and characterization of transport proteins for small metabolites.

Responsibilities and tasks
You will develop methods for expression of membrane proteins and for characterization of transport protein activity using solid-supported membrane-based electrophysiology (SURFE2R system from Nanion Technologies). In collaboration with other team members, you will apply the knowledge to create and improve yeast cell factories.

Specific tasks:

    • Development of innovative approaches to produce membrane proteins
    • Characterization of membrane protein activity using SURFE2R system and other methods
    • Experimental design, hands-on data acquisition and analysis
    • Reporting results in peer-reviewed publications and presentations at conferences and meetings
    • Collaboration within the group and within DTU Biosustain, participation in international collaborations

Candidates should have a PhD degree or equivalent.
Further qualifications:

    • Hands-on experience with membrane protein expression. Experience with cell-free protein expression is a plus
    • Previous experience with transport protein research is desirable
    • Experience with Xenopus expression system is a benefit
    • Excellent track-record of scientific achievements (publications, patents, awards, grants, conference presentations, etc.)
    • Ability to work independently, to plan and carry out complicated research tasks, and also to be a part of the large research team
