Two post-doctoral positions in neurosciences – Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (CNRS) Montpellier, France

In the context of a very interdisciplinary and ambitious project in neuroscience, cell biology, microelectronics and robotics, we are seeking for two highly motivated post-doctoral fellows to join the teams of Raphael Gaudin (IRIM) and Ganesh Gowrishankar (LIRMM), both labs located in Montpellier, France. The project aims at recording and connecting electrical activity in neural cells to a robot in order to study the neural plasticity and underlying mechanisms in vitro. Due to the strong interdisciplinary nature of the project, we are looking for two talented post-docs with strong ability for team effort and skills in at least two of the following expertise: MEA electrophysiology, neural cell/tissue/organoid culture, bio-signal processing, neuroscience, machine learning.

Activities

  • First position: culture of cerebral cells and tissues as well as stem cell derived cortical organoids and electrical activity recording on microelectrode arrays (MEA). Molecular and cellular confocal imaging of thick samples and classical biological techniques (RT-qPCR, Western blot, flow cytometry, DNA cloning, …)
  • Second position: experimentation in sensory motor learning, electrical activity recording on microelectrode arrays (MEA), electrical signal processing, machine learning

Overlapping skills between the first and second positions is a plus.

Expected skills

Expertise in neurobiology and/or signal processing and/or neurosciences

Work environment

The proposed project will take place in the beautiful coastal city of Montpellier, in the south of France.

The IRIM institute is located on the CNRS campus, gathering vibrant research labs specialized in cell biology, genetics, infectiology, neurobiology and ecology. The campus hosts high-end microscopy, flow cytometry and biosafety level 3 facilities and benefit from a very dynamic and international scientific and social environment.

LIRMM, is a multidisciplinary lab hosting researchers in robotics, microelectronics and informatics. The robotics group in LIRMM is one the biggest in France. The group of Ganesh Gowrishankar works in the interface of robotics and neuroscience with a goal of improving future robot intelligence with an understanding of neuroscience.

Contract period
