The College of Sustainability and Department of History at Dalhousie University invite applications for a 3-year limited term appointment at the Assistant Professor level, effective 1 July 2021, to be split between two Departments.
The successful candidate will be expected to teach 9 credit hours in both the Fall and Winter terms. The candidate will teach SUST1000.06, “What is Sustainability?” in the Fall terms and teach SUST 1400.03, “Exploring Sustainability” in the Winter terms (one or both online). The 9 credit hours to be taught in History will include a mix of lectures and seminars (face-to-face) that will be determined in consultation with the successful candidate. An ability to teach History courses that contribute to one or more of the Faculty of Arts and Social Science’s interdisciplinary programs will be considered an asset: e.g., in Black and African Diaspora Studies; Canadian Studies; Cinema and Media Studies; Gender and Women’s Studies; Indigenous Studies; International Development Studies; Law, Justice and Society; or the new certificate programs in Heritage Studies and Medical Humanities.
Applicants must have a PhD in hand by 1 July 2021, in a field related to Canadian history, environmental history, or the history of sustainability and development, ideally with some expertise in Indigenous-settler relations in the Canadian context. The successful candidate will have demonstrated evidence of teaching effectiveness in undergraduate fields related to writing, research, and experiential learning; experience in online education; and, ideally, experience in team teaching and leading community-based research and projects in environmental history, sustainability, and social change. A post-graduate certificate in university teaching and learning is preferred.
