Backend Security Software Developer

We are looking for a security software developer to strengthen our team in metrology cybersecurity. Aalto University has two projects (EU-funded SmartCom and Business Finland funded CONTIOT/SmartComTUTL for commercialization) which aim at developing a secure way of transmitting metrology and measurement data in IoT networks.

We help the industry to ensure data accuracy, integrity and security in their production systems. Our approach prevents massively costly errors, such as throwing away months worth of production due to incorrect measurement data. Currently, we develop a solution with our pharmaceutical customers to digitalize and cryptographically protect their calibration data. Our strength is our unique competences in metrology (measurement) and cybersecurity. We have early access to the development of Digital Calibration Certificate, which is becoming the global standard through a European EMPIR research project. We have a realistic opportunity to serve and obtain in three years $40M, and if successful, clearly more, of the $4B calibration services market.

We seek highly qualified individuals with an enthusiastic attitude towards research with industrial and societal impact to join our research team in Aalto Engineering Design research group. Our team consists of cybersecurity and metrology researchers in addition to an experienced business and research commercialization expert.

This is a full-time or part-time (negotiable) one year, until March 31st 2021 Project Employee position. The starting date is preferably as soon as possible, but negotiable. The candidate must have a high motivation for research, enjoying working in an international and cross-disciplinary team. The required and preferred fields of expertise, in the order of importance, are:

  1. Cybersecurity and cryptography, including digital signatures, including eIDAS
  2. Back end and cloud development with JavaScript, Kubernetes, and associated tools
  3. Agile methods, preferably including scrum master certification

We offer you an inspiring work environment: a flexible and non-hierarchical working culture, good IT facilities and excellent Internet connection with 5G in close future. The research project may lead to establishing a startup business, in which you can continue your work.
