Clinical Laboratory Director
National Genetics and Genomic Medicine Network (NGGMN)
The HSE is looking to appoint a Clinical Laboratory Director who will act as a key member of the leadership team in the establishment of the National Genetics and Genomic Medicine Network (NGGMN) within the Republic of Ireland.
The National Genetics and Genomic Medicine Network (NGGMN) is a hub and spoke construct and is being established within the HSE. This network will facilitate the development of a nationally coordinated service for Genetics and Genomics based on evidenced based practice. There is currently one permanent, whole-time vacancy available. The base for this post is likely to be Dublin. The specific initial location will be confirmed prior to appointment. The long term location of the post will be determined as part of the development of a National Genetics and Genomics Medicine Network (hub and spoke construct).
Remuneration: €133,128 – €137,866 – €144,409 – €147,793 – €152,307 – €156,832 – €161,395 – €168,238 – €175,082 (as at 01/01/2020). New appointees to any grade start at the minimum point of the scale. Incremental credit will be applied for recognised relevant service in Ireland and abroad (Department of Health Circular 2/2011). Incremental credit is normally granted on appointment, in respect of previous experience in the Civil Service, Local Authorities, Health Service and other Public Service Bodies and Statutory Agencies.
Eligible applicants will be those who on the closing date for the competition: (i) Possess a PhD of a recognised university and an FRCPath in either Molecular Genetics / Cytogenetics / Genetics; or equivalent to either of these. (ii) Have a minimum of 5 years’ full time experience or an aggregate of five years full time experience in Clinical Molecular Genetics / Cytogenetics.
Candidates must possess the requisite clinical, leadership, managerial and administrative knowledge and ability for the proper discharge of the duties of the office. Upon appointment, appointees who are practitioners of a statutorily regulated profession must maintain live annual registration with same.
Post Specific Requirements: • Depth and breadth of experience in Clinical Molecular Genetics/Cytogenetics • Depth and breadth of practical clinical experience in the application of exome and genome analysis in the diagnosis and management of individuals and families with rare/novel genetic diseases. • Depth and breadth of experience of multidisciplinary team working in the diagnosis and management of individuals and families with rare genetic diseases. • Depth and breadth of experience of working at a senior level in clinical molecular/cytogenetics, including training and management of scientific and technical staff.
Other requirements specific to the post: • Access to appropriate transport is necessary as the post involves a travel commitment • State Registration of Scientists by CORU, the designated body is in evolution. However, the post-holder will be required to join the appropriate Professional Register, once established.
