The Faculty of Health Sciences at Western University is seeking a Clinician Educator to lead and teach in the Sport and Exercise Medicine field (for physiotherapists and physicians) of the Advanced Health Care Practice (AHCP) graduate program and to be Professional Practice Lead and Clinician at the Fowler Kennedy Sport Medicine Clinic. This appointment will be a 2-year externally-funded faculty position at the rank of Lecturer or Assistant Professor, renewal upon successful review. The successful candidate will be appointed in the School of Physical Therapy within the Faculty of Health Sciences (uwo.ca/fhs/pt/) and the Physiotherapy Department of the Fowler Kennedy Sport Medicine Clinic (fowlerkennedy.com/services/physiotherapy/). Rank and salary will be commensurate with the applicant’s qualifications and experience. The anticipated start date is August 1, 2021, or as negotiated.
The School of Physical Therapy (uwo.ca/fhs/pt/) is a research-intensive unit that offers, or participates in, innovative professional and graduate programs. The AHCP graduate program is the first of its kind in Canada, offering a one-year (three-term) course-based master’s program for experienced health professionals to obtain graduate-level education in a clinical specialty (uwo.ca/fhs/programs/ahcp/index.html). This master’s-level program uses a variety of approaches to teaching and learning, and links advanced clinical practice to critical appraisal of research evidence and the application of knowledge to practice. The Fowler Kennedy Sport Medicine Clinic is recognized locally and internationally as a leader in sport and exercise medicine, with long-standing and internationally renowned fellowship programs in orthopedic surgery, primary care and physiotherapy. Founded in 1974 by the late Dr. Jack Kennedy and Dr. Peter Fowler, the Clinic was initially established to provide care for varsity athletes at Western University. Today the Clinic is a large sport medicine centre offering a multi-disciplinary approach to prevention, diagnosis and treatment of sport injuries for active individuals from recreational to elite athletes. The Clinic is a dynamic center for patient care, research, and education through collaborative partnerships with leaders in healthcare, academia, and the private sector.
Candidates must be a physiotherapist who: 1) has completed a masters and/or doctoral degree in a related field; 2) has advanced level clinical practice expertise in sport and exercise medicine; 3) has excellent organizational and interpersonal skills; 4) is registered with, or is eligible for registration with, the College of Physiotherapists of Ontario; 5) has accomplishment in remote/online teaching and student engagement with online content; and 6) has demonstrated understanding of and experience in intra and interprofessional practices and education. The successful applicant will show evidence of contributing to equity, diversity and inclusion in academia and/or clinical practice. Preference will be given to candidates with previous university-based teaching and curriculum development experience, and experience working in a multidisciplinary sport medicine setting. The selected appointee will demonstrate a capability to practice and teach advanced clinical practice in inter-professional sport and exercise medicine.
