assistant professor level in environmental engineering

Applications are invited for a three-year regular term position at the assistant professor level in environmental engineering, commencing June 1, 2020 or earliest thereafter. This position is subject to budgetary approval.

Applicants must hold civil or environmental engineering degrees at the bachelor’s and doctoral levels. Desired areas of research should be in line with the Memorial University Strategic Research Theme of Environment, Energy and Natural Resources, and complementary to the current research areas in the Department of Civil Engineering. Demonstrated competencies or experience in the areas of resources recovery, renewable energy (biogas) and waste management in cold and harsh environments, and a willingness to engage in a research program on environmental sustainability of communities would be highly beneficial. The candidate is expected to develop a research program that secures external funding.

The successful candidate will participate in the academic programs of the Department of Civil Engineering, including teaching undergraduate and graduate courses, developing undergraduate laboratories, supervising graduate students, conducting an active multi-disciplinary, collaborative research program and professional activities. Preference will be given to candidates who are able to effectively teach courses in civil and environmental engineering and particularly the Master of Applied Science in Environmental Systems Engineering and Management program. Past teaching and student supervisory experience is desirable. The successful candidate is expected to register as a professional engineer with the Professional Engineers and Geoscientists Newfoundland and Labrador (PEGNL).
