Memorial University is the largest university in Atlantic Canada. As the province’s only university, Memorial plays an integral role in the education and cultural life of Newfoundland and Labrador. The School of Human Kinetics and Recreation offers four undergraduate programs: Bachelor of Kinesiology (BKIN), Bachelor of Physical Education (BPE), Bachelor of Recreation (BREC) and a Bachelor of Human Kinetics and Recreation Co-operative degree (BHKRC). The new BHKRC is a four-year interdisciplinary program, offering students a progressive education in the field with experiential learning. The School has a growing Master of Science in Kinesiology program and recently launched a Master of Human Kinetics and Recreation program.
Qualifications
The School invites applicants for a three-year regular term appointment, as an Assistant Professor, who is a strong clinical and/or basic science researcher in the area of biophysical aspects of human movement. A completed or earned doctorate is required for the appointee to receive the rank of Assistant Professor.
An identified strategic priority within the School is growing the current research program and graduate degrees. Thus, the desired candidate shall normally have:
- an earned doctorate,
- a demonstrated record of peer-reviewed publications and presentations as first and/or corresponding author,
- a demonstrated record of securing external funding or potential to secure external funding,
- experience with knowledge translation and community engagement,
- the ability to support the growth of the School’s graduate programs,
- the ability to teach undergraduate and graduate courses, and
- post-doctoral experience.
Duties
The successful candidate will be expected to build a strong program of research, supervise graduate students, and teach graduate and undergraduate courses. A potential for interdisciplinary research is valued.
