IFI – International Research Visits for Computer Scientists – Master’s Degree Program • DAAD

Program objective

The IFI program has been extended by 12 months. Applied research stays must therefore be completed by June 30, 2023.
The aim of the program is to promote research stays by highly qualified young German researchers in the field of artificial intelligence as well as computer science in general and related areas at excellent partner institutes abroad.

Who can apply?

Students with above-average qualifications in master’s courses in the relevant subject areas can apply.

What is funded?

Research stays abroad as part of the master’s thesis at a German university are funded. The research project can be processed at a university, a non-university research institute or an industrial research laboratory.
The program focuses solely on civil applications; Research for military or military-related purposes will not be funded.

Participation in courses abroad is not funded. The scholarships are not granted as follow-up funding to a DAAD scholarship of the same or a longer duration.

Duration of funding

The funding period is one to six months.
The scholarship cannot be extended. A repeated application is possible, provided that a blocking period of at least one year is observed between the completion of the first short-term scholarship and the start of a second short-term scholarship.

Scholarship benefits

The scholarship includes the following benefits

  • a monthly scholarship rate determined according to the host country
    The monthly DAAD scholarship rate for a certain country / a certain status is displayed here: Scholarship calculator . In this program, the rates for undergraduate / graduate students apply. The mentioned scholarship rates apply with reservation to scholarships that are awarded for funding in the academic year 2021/2022.
  • Travel allowance depending on the host country
  • Health, accident and personal liability insurance benefits

In addition, under certain conditions, additional benefits can be granted upon request:

  • Grant for any tuition fees incurred up to an upper limit: You can find more information on this in our important scholarship information / Section D, Point 3
  • Grant for trips in the host country that are directly related to the project (please submit a cost estimate with confirmation from the supervising university professor with the application)
