St. Edward’s University, a nationally ranked, independent Catholic university and Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI) invites applications for a full-time, 9-month, non-tenure track position as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Environmental Science and Policy, beginning August 2024. St. Edward’s is characterized by its commitment to the Holy Cross educational mission to educate the hearts and minds of a diverse student body that is deeply committed to social justice.
The successful candidate will contribute to the promotion and growth of the interdisciplinary Environmental Science and Policy program through teaching and service. They will teach four undergraduate courses (twelve hours) per semester, advise students, and participate in department, school, and university service. Teaching will include lower and upper-level undergraduate courses, including courses on sustainability, climate change, and environmental politics and policy at the domestic and global levels. Candidates who can teach GIS and/or environmental law are particularly encouraged to apply.
The successful candidate will take advantage of the many resources on campus and in the City of Austin to provide high quality hands-on learning experiences for students. Resources include the Wild Basin Wilderness Preserve, the campus food forest, and the campus garden. Organizations and programs on campus such as the Civics Lab, the Kozmetsky Center of Excellence, Students for Sustainability, and the Office of Sustainability are also available resources.

For consideration, applicants must possess the following:
- An earned doctorate in Environmental Policy, Environmental Studies, or related field required. ABD candidates will be considered but must complete degree requirements by the appointment date (August 2024)
- Demonstrated ability to teach courses across the Environmental Science and Policy curriculum.
- Strong commitment to, and potential for excellence in, undergraduate teaching and collaborative research with students.
Essential Responsibilities Include: Candidates should have the interest and ability or potential to teach a range of undergraduate courses and support a diverse student body.
- Teach lower and upper-level undergraduate courses in sustainability, domestic environmental policy, environmental politics, and related fields
- Provide academic advising and mentoring for undergraduate students.
- Be an active community member in service to their department, school, and University.
- Contribute to the promotion and growth of the Environmental Science and Policy major through excellence in teaching and commitment to student growth as defined by the University Mission.
