Research and studies at the Department of Earth Sciences (D-ERDW) at ETH Zurich works towards a deeper understanding of all domains of our home planet, from the inner Earth to the continents, oceans, biosphere and atmosphere. The department hosts many state-of-the-art facilities, and has large research groups, allowing for diverse, flexible advising and top research conditions.
The PhD projects, funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation, will be integrated in the group of Prof. Olivier Bachmann, in collaboration with colleagues around the world, but in particular in Switzerland, USA, Japan, South America, Greece and Island.
The projects will include a combination of fieldwork, geochemical/petrological analyses on natural (and possibly experimental) samples, and numerical modelling to decipher dominant processes occurring in volcanic provinces.
We are looking for highly motivated individuals, holding a MSc degree in Geology, Geochemistry and/or Geophysics, who are interested in studying magmatic processes occurring beneath volcanoes within trans-crustal columns.
