RESEARCHER PROFILE: PhD/ R1: First stage Researcher
RESEARCH FIELD(S) AND DISCIPLINES1: Chemical synthesis, Organic chemistry, Energy storage
JOB /OFFER DESCRIPTION
We are looking for motivated candidates to take up a PhD position developing new synthetic schemes and methods for the preparation of a library of innovating molecules for energy storage applications to address the challenging problems of aqueous organic redox flow batteries.
In particular, we will be working on the rational design and synthesis of new nitroxides with improved performances. The thesis work will be focused on organic synthesis of innovative molecules and their characterization.
The PhD student will be also working closely with interdisciplinary collaborators to test hypotheses and molecules in the context of the PEPR Batteries consortium involving partners in Montpellier, Paris and Nancy. Scientific missions in these groups will be possible.
Motivated and enthusiast candidates should have excellent qualifications with practical skills in organic synthesis and a strong scientific background, independence, and who enjoy teamwork. You should hold a Master’s degree in organic chemistry with a training period in organic synthesis of at least 4 months. Knowledge and interest in energy storage and Li batteries are a plus.
Our group is composed of 9 scientists including two PhD students and two postdoctoral fellows. Our organic synthesis lab is fully equipped with several automated flash chromatography systems, a LC/MS, a semi-preparative HPLC, an H-cube and several vacuum lines. The group is one of the world leaders in the design and synthesis of probes and agents for DNP applications (3 patents including 2 licenses) and has developed also expertise in energy storage (Li batteries) and chemoprevention of cancers via the targeting of mitochondria bioenergetics.
